Lupus art gallery anyone..I feel inspired!!

It seems to me that we have many talented individuals on this forum n I believe that art in any way shape or form is a wonderful way of expressing ourselves..be it arts, crafts, music etc..whatever the medium I strongly believe that it helps us to get through the autoimmune stuff that we all have to deal with on a daily basis..so I got to thinking..what artistic persuits do u indulge in? What gives u pleasure n helps u to forget the every day drudge n worry that comes with AID?

For me n hubby it's working with wood..we have both been chainsaw carving for a good few years now..unfortunately I'm unable to carve anymore due to the obvious..n hubby can't chainsaw carve much coz he's taking care of me..so I got him some palm chisels for his birthday..n now he can carve at home..n I can still sketch..so this is our offering to the lupus art gallery...n I did promise Lisa lou that I would post up a pic sometime 🤗

PS I originally drew a skirt on the lady..but hubby carved it off!! 🤔

The idea behind(pardon the pun) this piece is the lady dancing naked in the full sun's rays..I definitely can never do that now..so she's in our living room!!

So I would encourage anyone who wants to dabble in the arts to do so..I find it so gratifying..u don't have to be good at it...just the expression helps to take the edge of off things.

Art therapy anyone? 😽Xx

This is beautiful 😍😍😍

Maybe hubby took the skirt off to be more of a reflection of you 😉

Such a talent. Thank you for sharing.

As you know my artistic flare is playing with abit of plastic that has a bell and feathers on the end that my cat absolutely loves. I’m hoping in good time that we will be good enough for Britain’s got talent 🤣🤣🤣

Yes I like to think that he removed the skirt coz he was thinking of me..sadly though I'm at the age where everything's travelling south!!! 😹😹

Yayyy I can't wait for your BGT debut...lisalou n her cat BOO!!! 😹😹Xx

Beautiful KrazyKat, or should we call it Crazy Craft? I envy this woman as I have always been a beach and tanning person. Nothing more relaxing than a day of sand, surf, and sun. 🤦🏻‍♀️ a total destress. But now? No mas sol ☀️, entonces, yo soy muy triste ☹️ (I love your master piece!)

Thank u so much Brook..yes I'm the same with the sol ☀️I'm not too good on languages..does that mean don't go out in the sun..or u will get sick? 😏

Maybe I should change my name to Krafty Kat..😹

Glad u like it xx

in reply to Krazykat26

Ha, ha. My Spanish isn’t very good either, but you were close enough in your guess. It just means ‘no more sun, so I’m very sad’.

Kraft Kay would suit you well. 😉

I think that’s a great idea. In the group I go to for mourning there’s a lady that cooks. That’s her art. She tells us all what to bring and we talk while we cook. I don’t get any important jobs. Lol! It’s soothing and companionable to be in the kitchen with 6 other people and then sitting down to eat food I don’t make. She’s definitely a food artist. I crochet and take pictures of nature. I’ll love to look at your works though. I find that very calming. Cute cheeks!

Cooking as well...what a wonderful group u have there...n then u share the finished results!! Delightful!!

N yes her cheeks r adorable n strokable too...very smooth!!! Xx

That’s weird I can crochet but pretty useless at knitting. You opened a good post there it’s so interesting to hear all these arts and peoples works, our home is filled with hand made things I made a mannequin lamp too😂

Thanks krazykat

😻, what a beautiful offering! I'm very moved by this. And it's so fun! And naughty husband! 😊

I almost took a wood carving course one time. I'm so interested in that medium. But with chainsaws?! You guys are hardcore!!! This is a lovely idea.

For me, it's wool. I have bookshelves of it. So I'm in there with the knitting and crochet, but the art part that took off all by itself after illness was felting. I make little heads. They were exciting to discover. And you know, when I think of all the wonderful people on this site, I wonder if I've been making all of you..?

Thank you for sharing this.

Yes, naughty husband😱😂🤣😆🤪

😹 Thank u Panda 🤗

Yes we started with handcarving n then moved onto chainsaws..in about 2010 we left our home n packed up..we lived off grid in a horsebox that we converted ourselves into a cosy-ish home n we travelled around doing shows n selling to the general public on the side of the road in laybys!! Mad I know but we did this for four years ( during which we had really bad weather..for most of the time) . Then I began to get ill so eventually we had to stop n get ourselves some accommodation..hence we went back to brick!!

I 💜 the idea of us all being little felt heads sitting around your home!! I'm intrigued about them 🤔do u do celebrities or everyday folk?

I do love knitting...it's very relaxing n productive too..crotchet is beyond me 🙆I just can't get it!!! My hands prevent me doing it these days coz I keep catching my skin on the wool...n OUCH it hurts!!!

But it's great to be able to achieve something..very rewarding I think when there r soooo many things that I can't do now...the smallest of achievements matter n give me happy memories of life before lupus!!

Would love to see a pic of your art...I'm intrigued!! 🤔

😹😹Naughty hubby indeed!! He's practising with bodies now..as in the human form n it's coming along nicely!! Our house is covered in our art work in one way shape or another...inside n out in the garden..n of course our house number by the front door... we're wood mad!!! Xx

I love this carving! Beautiful and exhilarating!

I draw and write. After my second stroke (May 2018) I couldn’t speak, write or spell (I used to be a proofreader) but in hospital I could still draw! At the moment I’ve working on a cartoon book with all the funny, silly mistakes I said whilst trying to get my language back. Like “wishing machine” instead of washing machine and “peeping tongs” instead of peeping Tom... I’m sending them out to publishers some time in the next month! Wish me luck!

Post up more of your beautiful carvings please - I love carving and no idea how you do it so elegantly! Magnifique! Xxx

Thank u Bunty

Omg..you've made me 😹😹with your cartoon book..it sounds fabulous!!! Wishing machines is gonna keep me smiling all day!!

You've had it tough but I admire your resilience n I'm so happy that u have regained your strength n continue to do your art!!

Carvings a wierd one n I found it tricky at first..I used to paint on wood initially n so adding colours n textures etc..with carving it's taking wood away so I think of it as painting is adding n carving is subtracting!! Of course the wood speaks for itself!!

Wishing u the very best of luck with the publishers 🤞

Thank u for sharing xx

😻! Well, that just sounds like the life -- off the grid in a cozy horse box! (Well, except for the endless rain in the lay-bys that is...) I think you are absolutely right that when we are getting limited with energy and sunshine, etc., these small creations are so very rewarding. I am imagining your house covered inside and out!

I was told by my Neurologist that vibrating tools can be a precursor to lupus...! He asked if I had any weird hobbies. At the time I had taken to sanding our recovered old wooden floorboards...which produced a look that only Neurologist's can give. I certainly have lots of other things to blame this on, but it has lodged in my head.

I definitely prefer knitting, but forced myself to learn crochet through self-taught hexagons. I did 40, one after the other, and I think that drummed in. But when I was finished these 40, I didn't do anything with them (they're still in a basket some 7 years on -- I so admire the crocheters!). So I'm back to knitting; and needlepoint when my brain can't cope. The heads are for when something wants to come to life.

Mine are everyday folk mostly. However I do have one that looks like Cate Blanchette. 😁😆

Thanks for the fun convo 😻🧜‍♀️.

I think that could be right u know..I had my first round of shingles..n then went on the road..the vibration of the saw was tricky at times for me..but I didn't know autoimmune 💩was heading my way!!

Do u do special heads for special occasions..like say.. Halloween? Xx

panda2 profile image
panda2 in reply to Krazykat26

I wish I could do them on demand. But they just happen and the needling of the wool creates the face shape all by itself, so I can't really direct. Though I do have a few very scary faces that could pass for Halloween. 😉

Yes needle felt when hands and eyes allow. Would love to post a pic but don’t know how to add to reply🙈 it’s my sanity and when I can’t do it’s what I look forward to getting back to doing along with pet portraits , I love drawing, that’s what I find the most mind freeing yet most disturbing when unable to do.

Live arts 🙌🏻😩👌

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply to stiff19

Yes stiff..it's hard when our digits don't let us do our art..but it's so rewarding when we can!!!

Needles r too fiddly for me now..can't even thread the blooming thing!! 😹

It definitely helps to relax us n isn't it great when we achieve something?

What a talented bunch we r!!

I don't think we can put a pic on the replys but if u would like to share it with us..u could put up your own arty post?? 🎨🖌️Xx

stiff19 profile image
stiff19 in reply to Krazykat26

😂 posted a pic . It’s not threading needles it’s just making a wire armature and sheeps fleece is then stabbed in it with a needle it takes forever , but at least it’s an art you can pick up and put down which is great doing at your own pace. Yes it definately is relaxing and mind settling and rewarding. Especially my young daughter now trying all arty things, she’s great at drawing and keeps them off of techy stuff 🙈😂 it’s lovely you and hubby have a shared interest with such great results.

Dead envious of your carved ladies figure 😂😂😂

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply to stiff19

Ah yes I understand now!! I do a similar thing I think..not with the carving but I have a willow wreath hanging on our shed..just willow weaved to form a ring..I put dog hair (we have a long haired terrier), cotton wool n colourful feathers on it..I use a wooden kebab stick to poke it all in..then we put it on the barn n the birds come n take it apart for nesting material!! It looks so colourful when I put it out..n it's lovely to see the birds helping themselves..I love to think of little newborn chicks in a nest made of bright pink, blue, green n purple feathers!!

Great that your daughter is arty too..it's great expression n it's fun to do together with children n grandchildren!! Anything that gives a break from the cyber stuff..god for the soul!!

I'm gonna have a look at your post right now..this is fab!! Xx

Love your carving! I agree us sun avoiders need something creative to do while waiting for clouds. I make cards and knit. The site won’t let me post pics as a ‘reply’ so will start new post. We should have a gallery like Tony Hart used to have on his tv show!

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply to Barbara17

Thank u Barbara

As a kid I used to watch vision on (showing my age there)..I loved the gallery n I think it's a great idea to have our own!! Of course I was bought up with Blue Peter as well..all those empty washing up bottles n inside of loo rolls that I used to hassel my poor mum for!! 😹😹

Keep on doing what u love..it's soooo lovely to receive a handmade card!! Our 'cards' r usually made of wood..as u can imagine!! Always carving for someone's birthday..or obituaries for loved pets etc.

I look forward to seeing your arty post xx

I love chainsaw carving and anything made with a good grain, unfortunately I can barely sand wood let alone anything else.

I taught myself crochet from youtube and am now trying loom knitting. proper knitting is way beyond me.

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply to suzannah16

Oh wow..loom knitting sounds interesting Susannah!! I did willow weaving back in my younger years so I love any kind of weaving n whenever I see anything historical on the box n the women r working with looms..I forget the plot n just watch the 'looming' (dont even know if that's a word😹)

I'm the same with the sandpaper that's a no-no for me..hubby does the sanding..but then his hands r like sandpaper to me..I have SCLE n he regularly has to pop creams, lotions n potions on my tender bits n bobs..so I have to grit my teeth 🤪

I'm finding out that we r a VERY talented bunch of people here..n that arty crafty stuff helps us to hobble along the autoimmune highway!! Xx

Hi Kat,

I was just looking at your post again and couldn’t believe I hadn’t left a comment!! 🤨 I thought I had!! 🤔 I’m getting worse! More Pred needed. 😊 Anyway, I think the carving is fabulous and I think your hubby was right in removing the skirt - much more eye catching. 😉 My hubby dabbles with chain saw carving when he fells the odd tree from our over-grown garden but since he had open-heart surgery last year (on my birthday!) he hasn’t done any more as yet. He loved it and hopes to get back to it. I’d love to see some of your and your hubby’s carvings. Kat, you are so gifted in so many ways and it is fantastic that the Lupus hasn’t managed to keep you down! Looking forward to seeing mor of your work or poems. 🤗🥰 Spotty

Krazykat26 profile image
Krazykat26 in reply to Spotty-ewe

Thank u Spotty!! So you've got a carving in your garden? Fabulous!! It's really hard to carve a tree stump still in the ground so hats off to your hubby!! I hope he's recovered from the heart surgery..that sounds heavy...on your birthday too!!

It was a good move carving off her skirt..her bottom is really smooth n often gets a stroke or a pat from visitors!! 😹😹xx

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-ewe in reply to Krazykat26

No wonder she keeps standing there! She’s enjoying the attention! 😂🤣🤣

Regarding the chain saw carvings, hubby has only done one on a stump still in the ground and simply carved it into a high-backed chair. The other sculptures are from the trunks of trees he’s brought down and he’s done a bear’s head and shoulders 🐻 but left the rest as tree-trunk (scared he’d spoil it if he went further). Another long trunk he’s carving into a bench with bears and honey pots each end, but it is so long since he worked on it moss is growing on it now. 🥴

Good of you to ask after him. The surgery went well and the repair is holding, but his heart rhythm is awry again so he needs more treatment. But he’s hoping the next lot will cure the problem completely 🤞🙏🏻

Take care Kat 🤗

Wow..we've both got carver hubs then!! High backed chairs..yes we've done a few..n wood bears in your garden!! I've got owls, green men, goddess, a 'dude' which is a kinda top hatted totem!!

You are a very talented pair.

I’m not arty at all unfortunately. But I do enjoy reading, music and theatre.

I love your woman dancing naked in the sun, as now I am photosensitive that would represent complete freedom from my illness. Oh to be carefree again.

You are right, there’s an abundance of talent here and a lupus art show would be a great fund raiser and raise awareness!?!?
