i too get really confused with these blood tests because my ana was positve along with a positive dna (whatever that means) but my inflamation was normal last time but high the time before which i don t understand, as i still get very achy i asked my doc does that mean i don t have lupus then but he said no you definatly do (confused again).
Hi it's my first time on here. I've just had a positive ANA result of 1:320 what does that mean? It was a routine blood test whilst seeing the rheumatologist about possible carpal tunnel, and it's opened up a can of worms! Im now playing the waiting game, but feel quite poorly at the minute, and am not on any meds yet.
With me-when I was very ill, extremely high inflammation readings, face rashes etc/again they thought carpel tunnel 3 years ago (before hydroxy & a diagnosis) my ANA did not show as positive. Now 3 years later more controlled and taking hydroxy 400mg with much lower inflammation guess what my ANA shows as positive!
Loopy I have a feeling my results might be like yours! I am very very inflamed but not so sure about the ANA bit as yet lol
I think bloods are hit and miss with Lupus from what I read - Larissa your ANA might be neg or pos at the next test but it might have nothing to do with the meds! (From what I've read so far anyway)...it's a pickle of a disease xxx
So was my 1:320 a high result then? I don't know what's normal? In fact I don't think I'm normal!!! And by the way blueberry, I was diagnosed with EDS when I was 11 and have never met anyone else with it before as it's quite rare! Now though, as I'm sure I have lupus, all the problems I've had in the past could actually have been caused by the lupus and not the EDS! Confused.com.....
my lupus is still classed as mild because thankfully i have no organ involvement (pray it stays that way) and when i was diagnosed last Jan 2012 my ANA was positive at 1.640.
your rhuemy will find it in the end it just can take time.
And another thing, they are desperate to get me under the knife for the 'carpal tunnel' but I'm doing my best to avoid it as I think it's due to lupus!! If I start taking meds, will the carpal tunnel symptoms go away?
I think that sort of explains about titers. Although the levels that hospitals count as positive and negative differ a lot. Just to confuse matters !!
I thought all my things were EDS for quite a long time Angel! But apparently no. I think EDS is a marker condition for Lupus. Don't quote me on that though. As soon as I mentioned EDS to my lung specialist he wanted my full history and instantly thought Lupus. Autoimmune diseases are like a spectrum, like ASD - so you might have Lupus, Sjrogens, etc and be in a very bad way...or just have some symptoms of one thing... or maybe even positive ANA and no symptoms x
Angel - do you have a Rheumy? Because it wouldn't harm anyone to try meds, or at least suggest that to them before an op.... it depends how willing your docs are. Some of them are very clueless about Lupus.
Thanks everyone, I went to see my GP yest to try to fast track an appointment with my rheumatologist because not only am I now worried and don't want to wait another six months, I'm feeling really poorly!!!
I know how you are feeling i had apostive ana test back in oct and they put me on predisone and then they wanted to start me on another medication but i needed to see the eye dr first. but i never did. and lately i have become very sore and stiff so im going to eye dr tomorro then back to rehumy to get back on medication this is to much because i need to work and it is really hard sometimes but when i go to doctors they confuse me more about this to.
I have positive ANA but neg Ds DNA so rtheumy says I dont fit lupus criteria. Hydroxy has helped tho and waiting now to see another dermatologist as he wasnt happy with the specialist I saw as he wasnt a consultant....
