Hi Littleandperfect ( great name ). My Rheunatologist prescribes a three in one mouthwash for me that takes away the soreness of the mouth ulcers and limits their time too. It is soluble prednisalone 2.5 mg, soluble antibiotic and Nystatin liquid. I use a pipette of Nystatin and one prednisalone with one antibiotic and poor on lukewarm water that has been boiled previously. I rinse my mouth with it up to four times daily and it works.
Genital sores are extremely painful and cause such discomfort and distress. Mine have now been diagnosed as Behcets . There is nothing that will take the pain away completely but I use Instillagel local anaesthetic syringes which does numb the area for short periods. I am so sorry you get these. The most successful treatment is Colchiccine which does help the frequency of the sores but it has some nasty gut side effects. You can get used to it in time, I certainly have and if you have the ulcers regularly is worth persevering with. Good luck I know Hiw painful these things are xx
Morning Little and Perfect,I have found Difflam Oral Rinse to be about the best thing to treat mouth ulcers and sores. I buy it over the counter at my local chemist but it can be prescribed by the doctor if you have a cooperative GP.
Tonk.
I use Diflam spray especially before eating as it gives you a bit of relief when you eat and your whole mouth is not numb like when you use a mouth wash. It comes with a long nozzle to zap those horrible ulcers
I suffer from this not as much as I did after being put on hydroxychloroquine and mycophenolate but every so often - just use thrush tablets/cream to help but think it's just when I am having a flare and they go themselves x
Hi, I was prescribed Difflam for mouth ulcers and that helps a lot, its a mouth wash. The dental clinic prescribed them.
When I told her I'd used Bonjela sometimes she told me to stop and gave me a script for Difflam. I'd recommend that.
My mouth ulcers went away when I stopped using a toothpaste with sodium laurylsulfate.
Hi Littleandperfect. I worked in a dental office in Canada and I found the steroid rinse too strong for me and actually made my hyper. If I miss flossing one day I get inflammation. The dentist prescribed a chlorahexatene mouth rinse which helps my travelling sores and make sure you brush your gums, cheeks and tongue. We always RX’d it when we did crowns to heal the gums so less bleeding.
I would get a biopsy of the genital sores so you know exactly what you’re dealing with. Prednisone can cause a massive wart party down there unfortunately and dryness comes with lupus. I’ve never heard of the other vag sores and I’m thankful I haven’t had those in my 35 + years with lupus. Your symptoms will change over time. Listen to your body and push through. Stay away from negative people.
Nose cut sore with a lupus flare is mainly a Vaseline or other thick gel to keep it moist. My Rhumy and dentist look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them about the travelling mouth sores I get. The steroid mouth rinses also can give you active mind making it harder to sleep.
Take care and you’ve got some great suggestions to try out.
So glad you have raised the issue of mouth ulcers. As per other replies I am trying mouthwash, after bonjela failed miserably.. I have had the same mouth ulcer for 4 months, it forms and drains then reforms. According to the NHS webpage you should seek medical advice after 3 weeks. I haven't because I'm assuming it is my immune system as opposed to anything more sinister. I will get a dental checkup in September. Any thoughts on waiting until then? It isn't painful.
Further to my reply, and on the basis that it is in the same place and getting worse, I have decided to get it checked out. Rang my GP this morning who is getting back to me.
