Plantar fascitis is the correct spelling :)

It only affects under the sole/in the arch of the foot - shins may be what is called shin splints

Hi saline My husband suffered with this for quite a long time the only thing that helped him was a steroid injection in the affected area. He has been fine ever since. Hope this helps.

I suffer from Plantar fascitis and have done for the last 2 and a half years. It gets worse the more active my disease is. I have found that the only thing that has relieved the pain for any period of time was a steroid injection. Sadly, it has come back after a big flare. Wearing the right shoes really does help. So out went the ballet flats and in came the Birkenstocks. They make walking, even around the house bearable. It is worth discussing this problem with your Rheumatologist if you haven't done so before. Best to try and get it sorted if you can. Hope that helps a little.

hiA very painful experience which I have had in both my feet and it took a long time to get it to 'rights'.

There is lots of information & video's on:

heelthatpain.com/home-remed...

This linked shows how to stretch your arches & rolling your arch on say tennis balls is good.... Though this is a usa web site, alot of these foot aids are available here. I still wear insoles to prevent future foot problems...

For foot spurs you also need really comfortable shoes with arch support (I switch to sketchers and good walking shoes which fit my insoles /heal seats (i had gel ones too) inside. I was kindly sent by family (from this site) the 'heal seat strap' or the compression sock helped lots on amazon ... amazon.co.uk/s?k=planter+fa...

or google Plantar Fasciitis Socks on amazon (ankle ones worked for me).

I never needed meds (other then normal pain relief -over the counter) and physio really helped as your whole body can suffer once you start hobbling around.

There at least lots of info about it on the web. Wish you well..ml

When I had it, I looked on YouTube and there were several films about exercises. The one that helped me was sit down, put your foot on the other knee, stretch the toes back and rub the arch of your foot firmly with your knuckles. It was uncomfortable at first but surprisingly effective. Luckily I didn't need any medication or socks etc.

Worth a visit to a podiatrist for advice on footwear and insoles. I suffered from this for quite a long time but it settled after injections and I still wear insoles to keep my feet healthy. Ibuprofen or voltarol gel rubbed into sore areas may help too x

Hi i had a bad bout of this a few years ago. I had the steroid injuctions in the foot but they put me out to do it so its a bigger thing than you think. It didn't work that well and carries some risks with it. Shoes with arch supports and every day stretching that tendon that goes from bottom of foot to the back of your knee. The surgeon explained you naturally tighten up as you get older so stretching out by hanging your foot backwards off a step or stretching each leg behind you every day helps lengthen that tendon again and the pain eases as theres more give. I have not had it for years since i do stretches every day and wear supportive shoes. If i feel it coming back i stretch all the more. Its a lifelong thing. Painkillers never really worked for me. Its an agony you cant seem to hit with ibuprofen. You can see a physio or look online for specific exercises. Hope it helps.

Heel raises can relieve the pressure on the plantar fascia. Also using CBD salve on it really got rid of mine...

I’m sorry you’ve been suffering and hope you get some respite with the exercises, socks etc. I was glad to see your post as I have been experiencing very similar problems. Naproxen, methotrexate, co-codomol and pregabalin do not ease the pain. It is something that comes and goes and has been driving me mad. I even thought I may have broken my foot, my GP said you can’t take any more meds and it had broken it would have heeled by now. Great to read all the advice on here, take care

Hi I had plantar fascitis some years ago -- (very painful!!). My phisio recommended shoe in-sole inserts such as " Pro 11 Wellbeing" or "Orthaheel" which raise your instep and ensure your foot arch and ankles are maintained in a good position & shape. They do work really well and no extra medicines or steroids needed. I have them now in all of my shoes and also (very important!) my house slippers too. I have found that good lace-up shoes are best and Merrell shoes have a removable sole under which you can fit these in-soles. My wife and daughter also now use them too.Hope this helps and good luck.

I’m sorry you’re getting this, I know that it is very painful. When I had it I went to the podiatrist who gave me an arch support insole and a list of stretching exercises. Along with rolling my foot over a frozen bottle of water the pain went away in a few weeks. I now keep it at bay with the stretching and walking as much as I can. Hope this helps.

Hi sabine - I feel your pain. Well, not so much nowadays though it does still hurt occasionally.

I've had plantar fasciitis for about 10-15 years. It was excruciatingly painful for the first few years.

To start with I had physio - didn't work.

Then I saw a podiatrist who strapped my foot into a certain position - worked temporarily but I couldn't do the strapping myself so wasn't a solution.

Then the podiatrist gave me steroid injections - didn't work.

Next she tried acupuncture - didn't work.

Then she built up orthotic insoles for me and gave me leg splints, which kept my foot at a right angle, to wear in bed. Not the most comfortable things to wear in bed. Took a while but Bingo!

She then gave me a booklet with all sorts of contraptions I could buy for myself. I bought some really good orthotic insoles - orthoshock and orthaheel - which I've worn ever since and had very few problems. I get the leg splints out again if it gets problematic. Unfortunately they aren't made any more, apparently Vasyli took them over. I contacted the company who sold me mine and they recommended the most similar Vasyli one but said I needed a prescription or some sort of medical note to purchase them. I didn't, I managed to get some. They're not as good as my old ones but they seem, so far, to be keeping my PF at bay.

My advice would be to see a good podiatrist and go through the motions, as above, to see what works best for you. I highly recommend the correct orthotic insoles - I wouldn't be without them now.

There is also surgery, but that's a last resort.

HTH & good luck!

Hi, yes I used to suffer with plantar fasciitis, I did for a number of years then I was diagnosed as being deficient in vit d3. I took the vit d3 prescribed by my gp and the plantar fasciitis went away. It’s almost 10 years now and no more pain because I took vit d3. It is in white papers as a symptom/sign of vit d3 deficiency but Drs don’t seem to be aware of it. I was originally prescribed Fultium d3 800x4 a day and afterwards I found solgar softgels the best for me.

Hope it helps
