I have raised blood pressure. Prof. Graham Hughes recommended Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg tablets. These have been very good. However my blood pressure has risen slightly - I have tried amlodipine 5mg and also Ramipril 2.5mg and I have had side effects from both. My GP is not very helpful. Anybody else had similar problems?

Blood Pressure tablets

Were the alternatives instead of or as well as the basic drug? Here in northern Italy the approach was 2 very low doses of different drugs - avoiding adverse effects but the combined BP effect was greater. GPs seem fixated on amlodipine and ramipril - are they the cheapest?
I was started on amlodipine after 4-5 months i got swollen ankles. I was changed to lercanidipine and so far no bad side effects other than the need to pass water all morning , I think this is due to bp med , still to discuss with my gp .
I couldn't take BFZ so was put on clonidine which was fine.when that went out of production about 3 years ago I was put on moxonidine.had no issues with it at all. X
Heya there 😌,
Here are the NICE guideline for HTB treatment, can find the full thing if you type into Google.
Ramipril is ACEi, Amlodipine is CCB, ARB is something like Candesartan. And thiazide like diuretic is like Bendroflumethiazide.
Hope this helps ☺️

I'm on candesartan 4mg now 8mg with no side effects. Although that doesn't mean you won't get any but it looks like one brand you haven't tried.
My goodness my favourite person Prof Hughes, I thought he had retired I used to see him at The Lupus centre London Bridge. One of the main problem with the cheaper blood pressure tablets they can give people coughs. My GP put me on Candesartan 8mg and no cough or swollen ankles
