Please can you let me know if you have experienced any problems taking Ramipril (prescribed to treat high blood pressure) whilst being diagnosed with Lupus. I have been told to tolerate it as it has been causing side effects, but not doing that much at the moment to lower BP. I have been taking the medication for a few weeks. The accompanying leaflet does mention lupus under the “be cautious” section. Just wondered if anyone else had any problems with Ramipril. Thanks

Bloop pressure meds
Yes Sarahze , I had to stop taking it because it was making me cough until i was violently sick or wetting myself. I was moved to Losartan, but that wasn't working quickly enough, and so Amlodipine was also added. Cough came back and i was prescribed Omeprazole to reduce stomach acid. Just had to stop taking that after two weeks because it caused sudden and violent diarrhoea. It would seem that Lupus and high blood pressure is not an easy fix. It seems most of the meds can impact the pancreas and/or liver and kidneys.
My friend also started on Ramipril but due to side effects now takes Amlodipine without any major side effects, but she is lucky enough to be Lupus free.
I was taking ramipril to lower blood pressure because of nephritis. However it caused my creatinine levels to rise. In other words, it was precisely no good. Losartan (the other blood pressure pill for people like me) kept me awake at night. I now try - with some success - to manage my blood pressure without pills.
I've taken ramipril for some years without too many problems - though I do have a bad cough with it. But I've (finally) managed to significantly reduce my blood pressure by losing weight - that's been the most effective thing with my bp.
Hi SarahzeI took ramapril for a while but had to stop it because it also gave me a really bad cough until I was sick. Not a pleasant experience. It is will known for causing issues.
