The strongest woman I knew.

Hi Lupus community, I hope it’s ok to post this here.

My mother was diagnosed with Lupus when she was pregnant with me in 1969 the doctors at the time had to contact America to help her through the pregnancy as they didn’t have much experience with SLE, I was Born prematurely and it wasn’t clear if I or my mother would survive to full term, thankfully we both did.

She went through all sorts of new treatments in the early 70’s and 80’s she had biopsies when lumps formed on her arms after going out in the sun, she became highly photosensitive in later years, she had chemotherapy and spent over 50 years on steroids and was up to over 30 tablets a day, Partial kidney failure, diabetes, COPD, heart problems and many other problems didn’t stop her from enjoying life.

Unfortunately she recently passed away from kidney failure and complications in hospital. Lupus was a major factor in her inability to recover and it also stopped her getting some treatment as her lungs and heart were not up to major surgery.

I am thankful for everything she did for me and how she never complained about her condition. She helped others who were diagnosed with lupus with advice and information.

She was a very strong woman through all the years and will forever be in her families thoughts.

I'd like to say thank you all for your kind words and well wishes, My mum never complained about any aspect of her condition but that is not to say she didn't have hard times, but with thought and care she never let it affect her daily life. She is testament to the hard work many have done in Lupus research and continue to specialize in it.

Many thanks to any one in this field, and with all their hard work gave me many years with my Mum.
