Today my beautiful friend Jo lost her battle with Covid. I am heartbroken for her and her four children l Jo and I became friends in a Lupus group nine years ago. She had lost her lovely Mum and her younger sister to Lupus and her older sister has Lupus. Jo was diagnosed with SLE by Professor Hughes but sadly subsequent Rheumatologists have been less than helpful and she has despaired like so many of us. We were “ just Facebook friends” to the world but we shared so much and I genuinely loved her. Last year we were due to actually meet up in person. I feel so sad that now this will never happen. I just needed to share this here in this safe space.💔

Oh my sweet CP 🤗🥰🙏I’m so sorry to hear this tragic news. I can relate. I too lost a dear friend that we bonded to the point of being ‘sisters’.

I met her during my years of therapy in my rehab center. She moved away to take care of her parents. Then we never got to see each other again. I lost her to diabetes about 5 years ago. Her hubby was kind enough to keep his promise to her to call me if she should pass.

It broke my heart💔😭 and I will always have a void inside because should took a large piece of me with her on that day.

Sweetie I’m here when you need me just let me know.

Sending you my warmest loving hugs kisses 🥰and prayers 🙏hun.

Abundant blessings dear friend.

EJ ♥️🙏🕊🌿🌸🦋

Such sad news 🥲. As for Dr’s, it seems too often common place not to get the care or understanding from Professionals. Have a condition and often battle ongoingly with the medical profession (it’s not just Rheumy’s unfortunately). All wrong! My heart goes out to Jo’s family and friends x RIP

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your FB friend. We build up some great relationships there with people we have never met and it does hit hard when things happen to our friends. Can I ask if she was shielding at all and did Covid come home to her? Just my husband's on the ambulances and it's a worry he will bring Covid home.

Regarding the lack of care for us Lupies, this is so very true. I've not seen or heard from a rheumatologist in over a year, had to request blood tests over 5 times through the secretary who have actually know as I work in the same hospital! In the end my dermatology secretary went down to the department and got me a blood form sent out.

Once again sincere condolences to you and the ladies loved ones.

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply toMandaM

She did not have a Rheumatologist. He told her she was obese and had Fibro. The Neurologist totally missed the info on her MRI fir six months that she was fitting and blacking out. A registrar reviewed her and she was put on anti epileptics. They dismissed that it could be Lupus related. She was not shielding as such as no one considered her vulnerable but she avoided going out because she felt so ill. She believed she had a chest infection before Christmas. Her four children all tested negative for Covid so they do not know where she caught it from. Only when she was admitted with Covid did they say they would not resuscitate because of Lupus. I feel broken hearted that she was so badly failed. I hope that you and your husband stay safe Manda xx

MandaM profile image
MandaM in reply toCecilyParsley

Poor lady, how utterly disgraceful. So pleasing to know that is Lupies are considered as futile lives to resuscitate too. 😡 My heart bleeds for you all. 😭

Thank you Wendy. Her daughter messaged me this morning, they cannot even have a funeral until the end of February. The last time her 16 year old son saw her was as she left in the ambulance Boxing Day. I am so utterly heartbroken for them. Bad enough losing your Mum but then all this on top is just so awful. She was a wonderful single Mum who lived for her children xxx

Wendy39 profile image
Wendy39 in reply toCecilyParsley

Oh my goodness. I was going to ask how old her children were. Mine are 12, 15 and 16......So can’t think of that scenario without shedding a tear. My worst fear. Who will look after them? Life can be so cruel. Those poor children. xx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply toWendy39

Her oldest daughter is 27, then the next one is 23, 21 then 16. The two girls got to talk to her on the phone ( nurse held her phone to her ear) and were able to say goodbye but the two boys have not had that chance. Thankfully Jo had wonderful friends who I am sure will help them all that they can. The Go Fund Me has raised over £7,000 in four days to help them. The two girls are hairdressers and cannot work because of Covid and the youngest boy is still at school 😞 xxx

A horrible, cruel situation for them all. It sounds like they’ll all be able to stick together and get through it. I’ll be thinking of them and you too. xx
