Lupus maybe?

Hello everyone,

I have just received a phone call from my gp that the blood tests I have done, both came out as borderline lupus. I am now waiting for the referral to rheumatology.

Can anyone help me to understand what borderline means please and what to expect on the day of the appointment with rheumatologist.

I had a suspicion it is possible in my case I can have it, as family members suffer from lupus.

It took me 10 years to get here. I previously was diagnosed with depression, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Kami

Hi Kami...boardline just means that there isn't enough info for a definitive diagnosis maybe you dont have 4 out of 11 criteria for lupus at this moment in time.antibody bloods can flit between positive and negative so are repeated many times over.

As for your rheumatology appointment there will be alot to take in and process.

Wendy has done a brilliant reply to Kelda who asked about 1st rheumatology appointments. You can find it in posts x

Best thing is to take pen and paper,it’s hard to absorb all the information you get given.hope all goes well.

Agreed with the other responses. It's probably a matter of hitting the minimum criteria and perhaps other things at play. I think all you can do is prepare for your rheumatology appointment and wait to see what comes of that. It's awful to have to go through 10 years of what you described, and I wish I could say ruling in or out Lupus is a quick process. Unfortunately, that takes time as well and wouldn’t jump too far ahead. There is a possibility that your other illnesses are evolving. Did you discuss that with your doctor?

Thank you all for your responses. I will be noting everything and take it with me to the appointment. I'm sure I will be waiting a while to get the appointment.

It has been a long journey for me as a lot of doctors I had in the past didn't test me properly. It was my private osteopath who suggested I should talk to gp to have lupus test done.

Fingers crossed either way it will be interesting to see what they can advise.

Thank you again 💓
