I was just wondering if anyone else had had oral thrush with lupus? I was put on steroids around 2 months ago now and the last week I’ve had terrible burning chest which is proving to be oral thrush... and just feel unwell/sore, tired
my gp told me to buy some gavascon but will that work? I feel like the damage is done, maybe by the steroids?
Appreciate any insight! Or if I should keep pushing the go,..
Thanks so much in advance x

Gaviscon won't deal with thrush - you need something like nystatin.
It is a common adverse effect of corticosteroids. Press the GP for something that will work. In the meantime salt water or sodium bicarbonate mouth rinses may ease the discomfort. Yoghurt also often helps.
I've had oral thrush, usually following antibiotics or just when I've been a bit tired. I found nystatin didn't clear it and needed tablets (sorry I can't remember the name) that was advice from the lupus uk book. I was advised by my gp/pharmacist to use corsodyl mouthwash as a preventative and if it flares I also use daktarin gel and that keeps it at bay.
Hi - I was given an emulsion with a dropper. The thrush in my mouth was at the back of my throat and tongue caused by a steroid asthma spray, it made me feel unwell. The emulsion shifted it really quickly.
No burning anywhere, I suppose it depends on what caused the thrush. Hope you find some relief, Gaviscon is usually excellent at dealing with acid/burning.
Just read MissusTees post!! Nystatin is the name of the emulsion...it worked a treat and tasted lovely xxx
