Hi, I've had oral thrush regularly, the liquid medicine (can't remember the name but it's yellow) doesn't touch it and I've had oral medication to clear it. My GP suggested I use Chlorodyl to keep it at bay but so far doesn't seem to touch it. I do eat plain yoghurt 3 or 4 times a week but he didn't think that made any difference.
Any suggestions? Thank you

Are you also changing your toothbrush after finishing a treatment? That alone can keep reinfecting you! Some on our forum suggest using Milton or another baby-bottle steriliser for your toothbrush during the treatment or getting disposable toothbrushes. Sometimes you need a systemic (tablet) treatment for a long time - the thrush gets all the way through the gut so just clearing the mouth isn't enough and it can be quite resistant. I was on tablets for a couple of months. And probiotics often help - the yoghurt is a start and it does help lots of people whatever he thinks but sometimes you need a bit more.
That's a good idea PMRpro, would you leave the toothbrush soaking in the solution between brushing, or just for 5 mins or so after brushing? Also, how often would you refresh the solution - would it be sensible to make up a litre or so and keep it in the fridge in a closed container, and just use each portion once?
Heavens - no idea how long Milton-type solution lasts!!! That was a LONG time ago I don't think I'd leave it permanently soaking, not sure what it would do to the bristles though they are plastic of some sort I suppose. Try google for advice - one I just found says use saline mouth rinse rather than mouthwashes but I just looked very quickly.
When I had hand, foot and mouth last year I soaked my drink bottles and tooth brush in milton. I bought a cheap washing up bowl and made one solution at night for everything and left it over night, rinse it all off and use and then used the same solution for my toothbrush through the day and then remade a new batch the next night. I then changed my toothbrush when it began getting better and again when cleared. But I have just been to the dentist as the roof of my mouth is swollen and painful and it went to my upper gums and she has just said it is a yeast infection but the only other yeast infection I habe had before was all white and cakey and this is red and swollen. I know cutting down sugar is a first line defense. Making sure your oral care is good after steroid inhalers etc. Hope it improves
I couldn’t use the drops and found daktarin oral gel much better . I also eat pineapple as it helps to cleanse the mouth and gargle with cider vinegar in warm salt water . It is horrible, I hope it clears soon, best wishes 🌸
Hi. Have you ever been checked for diabetes ? One of the adult symptoms can be reoccurring oral thrush. My husband was diagnosed some years ago now . He had oral thrush so often being given stronger and stronger medication to combat it. I made him go back yet again and made sure he was starving so that any blood tests could be taken there and then, like fasting blood sugar levels also a urine sample. The outcome was that he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
