Currently laid awake at this silly hour with terrible hip pain, over the last few weeks/months I’m not sure when it got worse being honest but I’ve noticed that both my hips are “cracking or popping” more than usual. I can raise my arms above my head and both sides make a huge noise and now it’s got to a point where it’s happening so many times a day without me trying and it’s getting painful. The right hip is worse than the left one but I remember from being a teen I used to have to sway from side to side to loosen my hips if I had been sat for a long time and sometimes they would crack but now I’m hardly moving and it’s like my joints are snapping out and popping back in.
Do you think this is worth speaking to the specialist about or just raise it with my GP? The only thing that helps the pain is taking cocodamol but I know this is just hiding what’s going on and I’m worried that I’m doing more damage than good as I can move so much more when taking pain relief.
This isn’t the only place that has started cracking and popping more, both shoulders have started jarring and popping but this is usually on a morning, then my left ankle and my wrists decided to join in too. Staying home has helped everything but it’s getting worse and I’m really worried so any advice on what to do or how to ease it up/reduce it would be a huge help!
Thank you,
Leenie x

Yeah in the morning both of my shoulders need to crack otherwise they feel really tight, maybe I will call the doctors to see if they can get some some physio I think at my doctors it is a self referral service.
I try and do yoga on good days but I’ll have a look at tai chi too, thank you for the suggestion x
I was specifically advised by my Rheumatologist to not do yoga as it would make my joints worse. She was the one who suggested Dr Lam, tai Chi for arthritis.
However, I did do a bit of yoga for breathing and relaxation which helped.
However, I have EDS as well as Lupus so my situation might be different to yours. Physio would be a very good place to start though.
Thank you ☺️ I’ll take a look at that dvd as I hate taking pain killers for the joints I’d rather do something like movement to help them x
Hi Leenie,
I'd personally speak to your specialist/consultant as I have found out through experience that the GP can be pretty blinded as they don't specialize in a specific illness so best sticking with the person that specializes in your illness.
Thanks ☺️ Yeah I’ve had similar experiences with the doctors they look at something generally rather than the condition to see if it’s linked first even though I tell them it’s part of it they still want to know general stuff too!
Last time I went to the rheumatologist they gave me a helpline number so I will try call that and see what they say, last time I went was just before lockdown and they wanted to see me in 3 months time. I just hope they can help x
Fingers crossed for you Leenie, I've always found you'll get there eventually so I'd personally if you can try not to worry. I know it's easier said than done though. When I had a major relapse 2 years ago the GP had me doing exercises and then dismissing the lupus as a virus that's causing the severe back pain, took me to tell them to check my kidneys before they sat up and took notice.
