I’m wondering if anyone has experienced pelvic, hip, lower back, pubic bone and pelvic pain that comes and goes?
Sometimes I have no pain whatsoever for a few months then out of nowhere it’s bad but not always in all those areas at once. I don’t think it’s muscular as I can’t locate a specific point. It’s worse at night, when I’m sitting or lying down. It can also make me a bit numb (can still feel but that numb sensation) ‘down below ‘ but this again isn’t long lasting however is worst at night. I’ve found ice and hot water bottles work - I’ve got a lovely long hottie that I lie on and bring up between my legs that helps.
I’m having an appointment about it with a back clinic after a GP referral. I’d mentioned it to Rheumatology but they haven’t really said anything about it.
I’m wondering if it’s nerve problems or ? Any advice on how to relieve it or ideas as to what it could be would be hugely appreciated .
Thank you all.

Yes I have, with the exception of the pubic bone. My coccyx suffers badly on bumpy roads. It’s with me all the time and I’ve learned to check the distance behind me before sitting with a bump and muffled yelp in a chair outside the house. It’s the main reason I have to wear BuTrans patches. I’ve had physio and hydrotherapy to build up my glutes, but I’m too skinny for much to happen.
I often carry a lightweight cushion to sit on and have padded my bed with two memory foam toppers and two duvets to lie on and ease the sleeping problem.
No nerve tingling or numbness. They have recently told me I have scoliosis higher up my spine, but otherwise it’s a mystery.
I have osteoarthritis in my spine and hips but I also get pain somewhere in between the two which feels more like muscle than bone. painful to sit stand and lie down
Yes, I have lower back, hip/pelvic and sacrum pain. The pain starts at my low spine or “hip” and spreads down the back of my buttocks and legs. Sitting is the worst. When mine stopping coming and going, I was given a full work up and Dx’d with Spondylitis. Also an auto immune disease. I also have SI joint dysfunction so that adds another layer. But that definitely comes and goes and I know how to alleviate it. That’s not inflammatory, just a structural or mechanical problem.
Talk to your doc and if you can, print a copy of a body illustration and shade the parts that hurt. The minute I did that for them, they were like “ah ha!!”
Thank you for the suggestion of the body map - I had thought about doing that for my next appointment for all my symptoms so you’ve pushed me from thinking to doing!
Yes I sometimes get hip pain and I am sorry to read that you do also. My dominant pain areas are my legs, arms and shoulders but then every few weeks I get pain in one or other or both hips close to the bone. It can flit from one side to the other too. It always transitory for me. I just rest and take my usual pain relief. Like you I find heat in the form if hot water bottles is often helpful, in conjunction with pain meds, for lupus pain. I have found no reason behind the flare ups other than damp weather or doing too much which are usual triggers for me. With very best regards, Lily
