White blood cells
Hi
I have persistently high white blood cell counts. My drs say this can be anything from stress, to inflammation, to infection. Also, if you’re being treated with steroids that can also elevate some people’s WBC count according to my rheumatologists. So, it doesn’t necessarily have to be an infection or feeling unwell, but should be kept an eye on nevertheless. x
Thank you, I am just wondering how high they have to get, before they Investigate, with each blood test they are higher, I know my medication can course elevated white cells, but surely there is s limit to how high they can go?
Theoretically they should investigate when it goes above the limit, but especially if the results are going higher with each test. If you’re concerned raise it with your rheumatologist (or GP if your GP is managing your bloods) - there could be an underlying issue, so they should really investigate it.
I’m no medical expert, but I guess like any blood result it can continue to climb until the underlying issue is resolved, I don’t believe there is a limit per se.
I am due to see my rheumatologist next month, so guessing they will look into it. Let's hope so. Thank you for your reply. X
Depends on how high and what the differential shows. How high is the count? What are the number/percentage of lymphocytes, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils, monocytes? If the differential is within normal range, that’s reassuring.
