Afternoon Everyone,

Just popped on to see if anyone else bruises easily and they take a really long time to go? I was on holiday recently and noticed more the little marks everywhere and some have been there for months!

A colleague recommended arnica cream, has anybody tried it and is it worth the buy?

Thanks,

Leenie x

A good arnica cream is really useful! I've used it for years - but for some reason I find a cream I bought in Canada is far far better than the gel I bought here in Italy!

When I had metalwork removed from my leg a friend persuaded me to try homeopathic arnica globules - I didn't have a single bruise and the nurses were amazed, saying usually the bruising can be worse than when the leg was broken and the metalwork put in! I had almost no pain and was up and walking next day - much to the physios surprise as well. I don't know how it worked, but it did something! And I doubt that placebo effect stops bruising somehow.

that sounds amazing! Can you buy the one from Canada online? I just googled it and saw Boots do one but never realised there were so many options.

No idea - I bought it while on holiday.

Yes, I've noticed I get these tiny bruises on my arms or legs once in a while. I'm not sure what exactly causes it, or if I'm just bumping into everything and don't even know it.. I hope you can find something that works for the bruises!

Hi Leenie...Many years ago I was diagnosed with autoimmune thrombocytopenia (now I realise it’s just part of my UCTD). My low platelet count would cause bruising all over. The bruises just appeared spontaneously, I didn’t have to bash into anything! They would take a very long time to disappear too.

My platelet count is good at the moment and I don’t bruise as easily these days which is good. Instead I get quite a lot of sores which don’t heal well and tend to scar. Hey ho.....!

I tried Arnica for my bruises and I have to admit I didn’t notice any difference. Other people would often recommend it to me though so it must work for some.

I have lots of little round bruises they seem to just appear but theyre more on my legs so I dont know if I am bashing into anything... my dog likes to sit on my lap so she could be the culprit its just so annoying when you want to wear skirts etc. and all you see is little dots. I dont like people staring at them because questions follow all the time!

Yes I was diagnosed at just 11 due to a low platelet count with idiopathic thrombocytopenia. I still get them now and my platelets are relatively normal since my hysterectomy at 27. This was a separate issue to my recent diagnosis of UTCD. Worth getting your bloods looked at. I used to have them all over my body the only reason it got investigated (because I was relatively well) Is my teachers suspected abuse! 😱 I had so many unusual and unexplained bruising! xx

Ive recently had a full blood count done and platelet count was normal at 263 - my doctors range is between 150 and 400 so looking at that I would say Im in the middle range. Can anything else other than platelet count indicate the bruising?

Yes I get bruises just by lying down . I am covered in blue, black marks on my legs arms and tummy. The worst bruises where I have fallen just refuse to go. I still have bruises on my legs from a year ago. Nothing I have used, including arnica gets rid of the bruising although they do feel more comfortable.

Even if its just a bit of comfort that'll do for me! Mine are mainly on my legs but I do get them on my arms occasionally, cant say my tummy etc has been effected. My mum used to say when I was sore you can get under bruising but Im not sure if she confused it for muscle/joint pain :S

Hi, I can relate to the bruises, I seem to wear them for weeks!. There is a company called SBC who make an arnica gel in various sizes, also bath soak. You can get it on QVC.

We also have a sturdy little Bichon Frise who I say has "Pokey Paws" when she sits on me. I call the little bruises paw prints.

I have SCLE and Primary Sjogrens. Long before either diagnosis I had noticed bruises seemed to hang about longer than usual. Oh the " joys" of each new discovery for all of us!! Wear your paw prints with the knowledge your furbaby leaves them with love. Xxx

Yes I bruise easily for no reason and the bruise seems to stain the flesh. So I rarely wear skirts as my legs in particular are quite unsightly. They don't hurt and don't seem to be linked to my platelets. I also get nose bleeds frequently.

could the two be linked? My brother used to suffer terribly with nosebleeds - particularly in his sleep which was awful when he woke up but I think it was more of a childhood thing.

I find if I want to wear skirts I have to prep them with fake tan, people don't usually say stuff if you've got a bit of colour to them which I find odd

Gosh, yes to the bruises and when i do bruise it's horrific and lasts for yonks, infact if I've given something a serious whack, it almost looks like scarring in the bruise site. I will however continue to wear bare legs and skirts in the hope of some colour to fade the standard purple pink shade!

I tend to bruise easily - I’ve always been this way.

PROcure Bruise Remedy works incredibly well for me. It soothes and heals the bruises very quickly.

Hello yes I get lots of bruises in random places and very often without bashing into anything! They also never go ... I have one on my leg that is still very visible and even the chemist said nothing will take it away now it’s been there for over 6 months!

Hi Leenie. Have you considered Mast Cell Activation Syndrome? I also bruise and bleed very easily and I believe MCAS is involved with heparin release (a blood 'thinner') , which might explain the problem. Just a thought....
