I used to regularly wake up in the morning with bruises on my body - stopped a while ago for no reason - I suppose it is all part of the package.

all the best

Hi, do any of the medications you take tell you to look out for unexplained bruising? read your information sheets and check, you may need to bring it to the attention of your GP. Take care, Angela xx

Oh yes, but I think it is the steroids and the aspirin that I take, do you take that as well? They are not like the bruises that i used to have as they seem to have like a pod in the middle and although they are not really painful, I get a tingling electric shock feeling with them. I've tried Arnica as people worry about me but it doesn't seem to do much. I have regular ones on lower legs just from opening cupboards and doors. Good luck.

yes i get bruises and don't know how I got them. Steroids and Aspirin will make them more likely. But 20 years ago bad bruising was my first symptom of lupus as blood test showed I had a very low platelet count.

Hiya, yeah I'm always covered in bruises, really embarrassing because I just can't hide them. I very often have black eyes. Anyone touches me I have finger marks. Lupus causes bruising but I am on steriods as well & also my platelets are always very low sometimes as low as sixty & they should be at least 150.

Hello fairy_leggins :-) I wouldn't worry yourself too much over the bruises. I'm always getting bruises that I have no idea where they came from! I do bruise really easily - you only have to touch me and I bruise! Throughout the day I guess I walk into the sofa or the table or a chair without even realising (lol..just leant backwards on the hardback chair and noticed it dug into me.... which will likely cause a bruise but I wouldn't have realised if I wasn't writing this)! I also have joint hypermobility syndrome and fibromyalgia as well as the lupus so with all of those think I'm more prone to bruising! However... if you are really worried about your bruises, I would ring your GP and let him know.. at least it will then be on your record! Hope this is useful! Take care.

Thank god!!! I woke up on Sunday with the biggest, blackest bruise I've ever seen on my calf. I had no recollection of hitting myself with a sledgehammer the day before so I phoned the surgery today and spoke to the nurse. She advised me to come into the doctors for a blood test. I too am on steroids but only 7.5mg daily. I was worried sick when I found the bruise. I've had Lupus for years but never experienced this before. I've been on steroids since last August so surely I would've had a reaction to them by now? The nurse mentioned platelets and clotting. I'll just have to see what the doc says tomorrow. If anyones interested in his reply let me know. I'm so relieved this issue has been raised today.

My spatial awareness is very poor and arthritic pain causes me to lose balance, so I am constantly knocking into things. It has gone on for so long I am totally unaware of it and just realise when I undress. I can bruise just by changing position in bed.

Tet something else to put down to Lupus

I was diagnosed through bruising I have approx 45 small bruises spread over both legs they areare hideous. I had a biopsy of one of them and it indicated inflammation of the blood vessels this started further testing and eventually my diagnosis. I have started medication and the bruises are still there they never completely go. I have had them for 18mths. I was told there was a small chance they would disappear but I haven't been lucky.
