Hi Lilly
Sorry your suffering with persistent throat infections. What lupus treatment are you on?. X
Hi Misty 14 I am on Sulfasalazine and Methotrexate normally but had sepsis 5 month's ago so off Methotrexate for a while x
I just witnessed a friend of mine almost die from sepsis. Your post caught my attention, he was on immune suppressants and it started with a sore throat . You are already of course aware of sepsis symptoms, which is a good thing. Make sure you always get a check up when your feeling poorly xx
Hello lilly...just quickly checked your profile: so, have you always had this tendency to developing complex persistence pattern infections? i.e. have you had this tendency even when not on immunosuppression meds? If you have, i wonder what your WBC (including the breakdown elements: lymphocytes etc etc) are and whether your immunoglobulin levels (IgG, IgA, IgM) have been tested? Because i do have this tendency and thank goodness it’s been diagnosed by rheumatology & immunology as caused by chronically below range lymphocytes & immunoglobulins due to bone marrow dysfunction (aka the Primary Immunodeficiency Disease hypogammaglobulinaemia + lymphopenia, aka antibody deficiency illness). It’s unusual for lupus patients to simultaneously have this sort of illness, but not unknown. And treatments are very effective + can be taken alongisde lupus meds, no prob! Apologies if you know about this sort of prob already, but this link tells you more:
Wishing you every best wish, 🍀🍀🍀 Coco
Interesting!!!!
Always suffered since I was a child now 66 and still suffering
Doctor said yesterday that it is unusual for someone my age to still suffer
Sending me to see a specialist
I had sepsis 5 month's ago not very good
Hmmm...sounds vvvv like my life history....i’m 64...what sort of specialist are you being referred to? Hope you’ll let us know how you get on! XOXO
PS in case it’s useful, immunology describes my chronic infections as:
Persistent pockets of bacteria-driven sepsis
So far, 7 years of various long drawn out multidiscipline investigations have identified & diagnosed these “sepsis pockets” dotted around my bod:
Chronic rhinosinusitis (infant onset)
respiratory tract infections (including provisional bronchiectasis)
upper jawbone (long term osteomyelitis due to undiagnosed failed root canal in the early 1990s)
Stomach (long term gastritis due mainly to slow transit dysmotility small intestine bacteria overgrowth (SIBO))
Urinary tract (official title: infectious urinary tract disease)
Wow very informative thank you
Ear nose and throat specialist I think
Will certainly keep in touch
I have pockets in my intestine that fill with bacteria from time to time
Which is not nice
But eating lots of natural yoghurt keeps it at bay
Xxx
Very interesting topic.
Since I was very unwell, and diagnosed sjogrens ?lupus (hashimotos - 25 year hypothroid patient), I have between 4-6 lots of antibiotics yearly. Throat, chest, wound, cellulitis, ear infection, uti repeat, and first ever time, vaginal infection!!
Since January this year, had 5. I very rarely had antibiotics before, which GP commented on. I have not been referred anywhere though.
Some of these infections have been very nasty. Very persistent!
And, I am now in my 60s too!
Please keep us posted when you get some answers.
Wishing for you, that you stay well now.
Ps awful sinusitis recur too!
Am so sorry supul...these complex persistence pattern multisystem infections are no picnic!
Can’t resist asking you the same sort of questions i’ve already asked lily (above):
did these infections start much earlier in life....or only after you’d begun taking immunosuppression meds?
Do you know your WBC, lymphocyte, neutrophil & immunoglobulin G,A,M levels?

Thank you for reply coco.
Interestingly, I did suffer infections as youngster. I wasn't in the best of health during childhood.
I was hospitalised for a month when 6 month old baby, with pneumonia.
Age 4 yrs, having suffered repeat throat infections, I was hospitalised for tonsillectomy. Post op recovery did not go to plan, as I was then diagnosed with a perforated eardrum. Thus, before discharge, I was taken to theatre again for 2nd op.
I was then deemed to be very unwell, and medics thought I may have gone deaf (one ear, I think). In their (stupidity nowadays), wisdom of the time, they discharged me to an 'open air' (country hospital), hospital to convalesce. Once again, I was away from family, including mom and dad! (Parents not allowed on hospital beds, let alone staying over in those days).
I went to mainstream school, was thought to be a 'very bright' pupil. Yet, I had falls, wounds that took so long to heal. I slept every opportunity I had.
Next ill health to speak off, was at puberty. Late developer, 13 first monthly. During which time, I was thin as a rake, hyper, ear infections continually. (Wonder now if always had thyroid issues-grandmother died during thyroid op).
Health settled by age 14, left school, worked, married. Had 2 normal pregnancies, no drugs childbirth. 3rd pregnancy told I had miscarried ?twin, continued to bleed till son born. Within no time, got diagnosed anaemia, food poisoning and myxodeama.
I took levothyroxine for 25 yrs, raised family, worked. No serious problems. Then, 4 year ago, recently retired, I got sciatica, prolapse discs, body rash, skin flare ups, food intolerance, gastric problems, palpitations, pressure on throat, became hyper - yet exhausted.
Seen by Drs, hospital, got chemical testing. Diagnosed toxic metal cobalt nickel, hashimoto thyroiditis, adrenal insufficiency, sjogrens syndrome, ?lupus, ctd, lesions on liver, migraine,...
I took thyroid and adrenal supplements.
Joint pain, night sweats, fluctuating BP, HR, utter fatigue, skin rashes, headaches, inability to walk properly, weight loss, utter dryness mouth, eyes, nose, ears... continued.
Took hydroxychloriquine 4 months whereby, i suffered 4 lots infection as previously posted above, so 4 lots antibiotics back to back. Hospital phoned WBC and Neutrophils down.... (blood form in post), I was so unwell, I stopped hydroxychloriquine.
Phew! Sorry, so much to write! Don't we go through it?!!!!
Haven't got results to hand think neutrophils 2.. can't remember WBC both were too low.
I joined HU. Do what I can to help myself. Though, in all honesty, I'm struggling again because leg pain waking me every night.
I'm under an endocrinologist and rheumatologist. GP useless.
I've been told I've been very unwell for awhile (I know), it will take time to get well.
I feel ready to restart hydroxychloriquine. Endo says not till thyroid right..
Unfortunately, none of the refer for ENT, gastro, skin biopsy.. I've asked, but no...
I believe I have more lupus symptoms but what do I know?
