Really good idea to make changes Loulamb . Well done with the weight loss, will only help your health. I too have to watch my weight and what I do is have smaller portions and have cut down on spuds, puddings etc. Not easy but it does work. Do hope your mouth settles soon, it's been thru a lot. X
Yes, I know I'm currently underweight, but in past life I have been a big lass. Cutting out or down on anything sugary is a great help, specially for the teeth. Well done on the loss you've had so far! Perhaps continuing that will work best.
Have a look on the internet for info, because there are so many ways of tackling weight loss, and each method suits different people, according to your own preferences in food. I found low fat the easiest. Slimming World was good. Club for me. Many others prefer low carb and high protein. Son's girlfriend has got a my fitness pal app which helps her track what she's eating, including macronutrients such as protein carbs and fat. Son now does that too. There are free apps.
Please don't bother with the internet claims about losing 10lbs in a week etc, or anything that involves spending money made on something which is "the secret doctors don't want you to know about"
Basically, no matter how much or how fast you want to lose more weight, health comes first. No point in losing the pounds and setting a flare off x
Hello. Good for you. I'm always impressed by your positive & mature attitude, considering you are so young. As I can no longer drink alcohol due to my new med I sometimes have a fizzy drink in a wine glass at weekends instead! Ha ha. So they are not an every day thing for me, more a weekend treat. I could do with losing some weight but struggle with the lupus & OA in my hips etc. I am trying to walk 10-20 mins every day. Then I do Pilates once a week. I can't manage much more. My husband has taken it further, we got him a pedometer thing for Father's Day and he is doing 10,000 steps a day. If he hasn't done enough when he gets home from work at 6.30 he goes for a walk after eating. He lost 2lbs this week. I know with your job you will be on your feet a lot. As for meals, our diets aren't perfect but I do try, for our 3 children and all our sakes. Drinking water. 5 portions of fruit or veg a day. I try to cook meals from scratch. I am not buying jars of sauces etc. I do my own. So really trying to limit the additives and preservatives in our food, which I think are bad for us. Like I said, I'm far from perfect. I have a sweet tooth, my downfall. But I love dark chocolate and sometimes just a few squares of very dark chocolate is enough and that has less fat and sugar in it. Let us know how you get on. You're obviously doing something right, if you've lost 2 stone already. Good luck! X
Message from son: Quavers are low calorie. Message from me, if you like twiglets, the little bag gives you lots of taste for your crunch and claim to be 99 cals. Another claim from me: keep downfalls out of the house! Over the winter I got an obsession with Maynard's Wine Gums (sugar, additives, nooo). They are now forbidden entry. My teeth, my teeth! x
I did calorie counting . I use to eat a lot of skips they are low calories . Sadly today I went out and brought a few tasty bits as treat for being able to chew a little better x 😂
A low carb diet helps, but the AIP thing I'm on really makes the weight drop off. The reason I like these is that you eat as much as you want, but it cuts out food groups - the ones that make you put on weight, namely sugar and high GI carbs (despite what the docs still say, it's not fat that's the problem, though cutting out processed fats helps), and also it's very whole foodie, which means you aren't eating processed food with hidden sugar etc in.
It's one effective way I've found of dealing with the food environment and the fact that high carb food is addictive.
Restricting calories just slows down your metabolism, and I've never done calorie controlled dieting.
I made an appointment with my GP nurse who educated me brilliantly on diet, and I already thought I knew a lot. I didn't know half of it!
Google "The superfood plate" to get an idea of portions
I've swapped spuds for sweet potato.
I've swapped mash for celariac mash and if I want chips I make celariac chips.
Quinoa stops me getting hungry, I mix it with steamed or roasted veg.
Porridge for breakfast stops me getting hungry before lunch and I add cinnamon as it stabilises blood sugar.
I have POTS so have to drink at least 3 litres of fluid a day. My latest trick is to ditch the squash and make iced tea. I put 2 fruit teabags in a litre of boiled water and stick it in the fridge when cool. Delicious and without additives.
Ditch white bread for sourdough if you can. 2 slices of white bread contains more sugar than a mars bar.
I miss crisps too so I've swapped crisps for skinny popcorn.
Good luck and I hope some of that helps.
Snacking on toasted seeds is also good but dont allow yourself to get too hungry or you could binge. That's the struggle I had. Also lots of veg! There is a lot of sugar in fruit but carrot sticks fill me up very quickly. X
Hello. I've lost 25 lbs by going gluten free. I've been medication free for 1 year. I was thought to have lupus but turned to RA. Eliminating as much sugar as possible is key I think. I also only cook with olive oil and coconut oil. I only drink water and ice tea I make out of tea bags Good luck.
