Advice please. Chest pain.

Hi all I have been suffering with mild chest pain for about a week. It's tolerable most of the time but more painful when I take a deep breath. No temp but my lymph node has a small lump which is normal for me with an infection. I've only had a mild history of chest pain with my lupus. Any ideas?

How about see a lung doctor asap?

That's obviously going to be my intention if it gets worse. I haven't got time to take off for mild pain which is why I'm asking for advice.

In my forth year of SLE LUPUS with shrinking lung syndrome. For over years I had symptom similar to yours (Occasional Mild chest pain and occasional pain with deeper breath - Usually on 2-3 days per week). Be mindful if the ache ever gets severe call an ambulance (My doctors advice). It could be the often promised heart attack. Difficult to judge sometimes between mild and severe pain. Don't take chances. Better safe than sorry. For some unknown reason I haven't had this in the last month. The variable nature of this disease never ceases to amaze me. E.g."Now my feet and hands are pure white. What's going on?" Turns out it's Reynaud's Disease. It comes and goes very infrequently. Lots more stuff like this happens. Good luck with your battle. JO

I have had chest pain alot but it has always been said to be muscular pain. I have had chest x-ray , ecocardiograph but nothing seen. But for the past 3days i have had a nerve like pain on the right side of my chest. It feels like a traped vein or nerve. I hug my hot water bottle, take my morphine and apply my algesal cream.

Call ur dr and get it checked out as soon as possible.

Take cake and God bless

Regards

I get it too. Can't remember the name but was told that it is inflammation in the joints where the ribs join the chest bone. Still worth speaking to a doctor, even a phone appointment would be better than nothing. I was given a 10 day course of steroids which did help.

What is that?

Go to your doctor. I had mild chest pain, which was only uncomfortable when taking a deep breath on two occasions last year. The first was fluid on my lung, the second which I described as severe heartburn at its worst, was a heart attack. I had no idea. When you suffer from chronic pain over a long period of time you become accustomed to dealing with it as no-one ever really wants to hear about, especially when they can't see anything wrong with you. Let your doctor tell you if it's something to worry about. After 17 years of acute flare ups and more problems I thought I knew my body, well I did know there was something, but never considered it to be so serious. I also had blood clots and needed warfrin, if I'd waited until it felt worse or until my next appointment.... Don't diagnose yourself, get a chest xray at the least and let the doctor decide. Please God it's an infection or strained muscle, I've been there as well. I don't want to scare you, just plead with you to value yourself, don't assume anything. I'm 44, my angiogram was clears, I have low cholestrol and blood pressure and though they know what's happened, they don't know why. Please let us know how you get on, I'll worry now about how you are, please don't dismiss me as a drama queen. There are hundreds of reasons for chest pain, that's what I kept telling myself, because it's true. But it's for the doctor to give you the reason, no-one else. Sending hugs and best wishes, hope to hear good news from you soon. Good luck and take care ;)

Thank you :) I did have a telephone conversation and they prescribed me a brown inhaler and a peak flow. My peak flow is 430 which i don't even know if that's good. After doing googling my symptoms sound exactly like pericarditis:s they said go to emergency department if I feel worse later.

Could be Lupus Pericarditis, (fluid round heart which can inhibit the hearts normal function), apparently some 60% of Lupus folk have this to some degree - normally controlled by normal Lupus medications/

My symptoms sound exactly like this. My doctor prescribed me a brown inhaler and told me to take normal doses of oral steroids etc.

Your symptoms come under the description of pleuritic pain but can be due to chest wall issues and pleuritic pain can also be pericarditis as mentioned, also sometimes due to lupus. The reason is a process in the pleura, the liningsover the lung. The most important, because it can be fatal when it is a warning small embolus and can be followed by a bigger one , is a pulmonary embolism: a clot arriving in the lung ..... go to your GP or an emergency department and ask "could I have had a pulmonary embolus". There are good tests and good treatment if that is the reason. It is important not to assume that because you have lupus it will explain new symptoms (the commonest reason for pleuritic pain is a chest infection but the most important of the many reasons is a pulmonary embolus.
