For the last couple of days I’ve been experiencing some chest pain. It’s right in the middle of my chest, feels like it’s in a vertical line between my breasts (if that makes sense!) it’s quite a dull pain that seems to come & go. Everything now & again it takes my breath away but I’m not short of breath in general.
Any thoughts on what it could be or what could be causing it???
Thank u in advance my lovelies xx

I get two kinds of chest pain regularly. One is a rather dull, but crushing, central ache; the other is more acute and definitely localised around my heart. After several trips to hospital, I've come to know them quite well. The first is a variety of hertburn, and tends to happen when I'm on a higher dose of steroids than normal. It is usually eased by sipping water and taking lansoprazole. The second is probably mild pericardial inflammation, caused by a flare
The trouble with these types of chest pain is that you can never rule out the possibility of a heart attack. So - as you probably know - the best advice is always to get it checked as soon as you can. New chest pain always justifies ringing 111, or your on-call GP, or even going to causalty x
Should add that my Rheumy said 'see your GP if it lasts more than week'...so I now know from replies that's just another piece of throwaway advice from a second-rate quack! 😋 THANKS EVERYONE! xxx
My experience is exactly as Whisperit describes above. But yes, after a time or two of being checked out at the ER. I now have come to learn my body and what and when those pains occur.
I’m sorry it seems you will be going down this road but yes best to start at the ER
After you go to the ER and are sure it’s not a heart attack... I get pain in the middle of my chest that radiates to my back. They think it is muscle spasms of the esophagus. It definitely feels like muscle. I also get it with the diaphragm - no pain with that but makes my voice skip or get stuck. Like my breath isn’t regulated right when it comes out. So many possibilities with these diseases.
I also, since January, been suffering from the exact same symptoms but my Rheumatologist did not suggest it had anything to do with my weight. To be honest the symptoms are slowly getting worse. I'm waiting for to have a series of ecg etc. tests. The gasping/hiccups of breath, pain in chest, breathlessness when lying down and intermittent palpitations and now full blown fatigue is annoying and quite alarming at times, especially when it wakes you up at night.
As you posted your response 10 months ago, did your rheumatologist come to a solid conclusion regarding your symptoms and have they subsided? We're you started on a new treatment plan?
Could it be costochondritis? I woke up with that in the middle of the night a couple of years ago and genuinely thought I was dying - couldn’t breathe without pain, couldn’t move in bed without pain. It took me a good 10 minutes of panic, thinking ‘this is it’ before I realised the pain was coming from ‘the surface’ rather than deep inside. Costochondritis is inflammation of the cartilage that joins the ribs to the sternum and it flipping hurts. My rheumy showed me how to test for it - if you feel the pain when you press on your ribs or sternum, it’s probably costochondritis.
I still get it mildly (more like a dull ache) when I’m run down or fighting a flare.
You’re right, that’s what I’m experiencing, been fighting a flare for a couple of weeks. Seen gp today as now query whether I’ve got chicken pox?! Just to top it all off!!! Oh the joys!!! Thank u for replying xx
