I know it's a long shot, with this being a primarily UK site, but still thought I'd throw it out there. I will drive to anywhere in Florida. I just want someone who is really good, really smart, and most of all, someone who listens to the patient.
Thanks for any input anyone has

Hi there, just to say first off I don't know of any rheumatologist off hand, but I have a thought! In the back of Suzanne somers books she recommends doctors for many conditions including lupus/me and some of them are in Florida...it maybe another way. Good luck, hope you find someone to help. Cxxxx
If you contact the Florida Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, I'm sure that they could help with some recommendations. Their website is lupus.org/florida
You'd think, right? I did reach out to the Florida chapter. They sent me a list of "lupus aware" doctors, which was simply a list of rheumatologists by county. They will not recommend any specific rheumatologist. The one I've already seen was on this list : /
Ha! I was thinking about that too. I was worried bc I don't have a diagnosis, I'd appear like a creep or rude asking everybody about their doctor. But then I think, if the roles were reversed, I'd be excited to tell him or her about my doc if they were awesome... And especially bc, as I'm learning, this stuff isn't easy so any bit of support we all can give, the healthier we will all be!
I'm waiting on some mailings from the Florida chapter, I'm hoping some support group info will be in there. I will call them back if not. Just found out my office manager has RA, going to check in with her about doctors and maybe groups. Small world!
Hello 14. I live in Clearwater Florida and after going through several bad experiences finally found a fantastic rheumatologist. He was recommended to me about 20 years ago by two physician friends of mine who in fact had to get me in to see him. He was not seeing new patients at that time but I believe is now. He is amazing, I walked in a mess, he listened, prescribed and told me I would never be alone on this journey again. He has since sent me to Johns Hopkins for a second opinion and been my watch dog every step of the way.

If you can't get in send me a private message and I can send you my name to refer you, he will on request of existing patient.
I have a great Rheumatologist who is all that you want and more. Her name is Prabodh Kapila based in Plantation, Florida. 954 370 1153. She's been my doctor for over 10 years.
I live in Florida and I would recommend if you can get a diagnosis of Lupus from a Rheumatologist you could ask for a referral to Shands Hospital in Gainsville, Florida.
They are a teaching hospital they have Lupus Specialists in thier Rheumatology Department with new treatments and clinical trials, it is difficult to find Lupus Specialists in Florida.
I glad to hear we have another good option in the Sunshine State 🌞
I'm not even sure of what it is I have. That is why I want a really good dr. I have all these antibodies and a high RF. I want to know what's going on, what I should be looking for, and make sure there isn't damage being done. The only dr I've been to so far what a total jerk and treated me like someone who was making something out of nothing and that I didn't look sick. Plus he checked his text msgs during our appt. So I'm really looking for a dr that will investigate, ask me questions, WANT to know what's going on like I do.
I'm bummed! I checked all the recommended doctors (including Shands) and not one of them is in network with my plan. Boo!! Lol however I got this insurance knowing it was just good to cover the basics and that was perfect back when I thought I was perfectly healthy! 🙄😅
So the network is tiny. It's called Blue Select and I would not recommend it unless you are the pillar of health Lol. I will be upgrading to another marketplace Florida Blue plan with a much larger network next year if I can- Blue Options.
And if I know I can get that insurance come the new year, and I find an awesome Dr contracted with Blue Options, I don't mind being self pay until January.
So all of these recommendations are great. I appreciate all of the help!! Thank you thank you thank you!! ❤️
