Following on from the good discussion posted here today re her facial rash, and the other reassuring replies in the previous posts about Isla's symptoms:
gosh, daisy...vvvv hard for me to feel i can comment with any authority. my impression from my mother's descriptions is that my earliest rashes as an
infant /toddler were raised but more red and less rosy pink than in your photo, with more scaling & crustiness. apparently they were in patches, mainly sort of irregularly circular but spreading
but yes this is a horrid rash in the photo (you poor darlings: am so sorry you're having this experience...but it's GREAT the aveeno helped: my husband swears by aveeno for his rashes (he has crohns disease) and i know many others here in the uk & in the usa who don't have significant autoimmune issues and LOVE aveeno for just the sort of rashes in your photos)
on balance, i think i'd go with 'Occam's Razor' (assume the most minimal cause) on this one: consider this eczema for the time being
i sense you have investigated possibilities thoroughly, are v well informed & v capable with lots of common sense....and i am no expert, but, for what it's worth, i'll add that am imagining you'll continue to stick with aveeno, and to take photos + keep a log of occurrences inc any suspicions you have re what may have triggered a phase of rashes (e.g. exposure to sun or heat, plant toxins etc), meanwhile keep your drs in the loop, and if the rashes persist + defy management (and of course if systemic mulitsystem symptoms multiply (fever, flu-y feelings etc)) ask promptly for referral to dermatology & or rheumatology....which you've done already....am sure your log + photos will be a great help
am sure you're already alert to the usual lifestyle management ideas...anti-inflammation diet etc, caution re soaps, detergents etc.
please let us know how you get on
sending you and your family every best wish
Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my posts barnclown. I really appreciate it.
I am currently using hydrocortisone that was prescribed by the doctor but it's not helping. To be honest though, it didn't help her back rash either but the Aveeno went on to clear it! I feel I should carry on with the hydrocortisone until Tuesday (the Dr asked me to use it for a week) so at least I can say I followed dr's orders but it didn't help.
As I mentioned in my other reply on the other post, we have been out in the garden all day today. 15 minutes without suncream followed by factor 50 for the rest of the day. She had a hat on shading her face most of the time. But no worsening to the rash at all. I don't know if this is a good sign, or if the sunblock would stop the rash from reacting to the sun anyway?
You're vvvv welcome....and if I help even a little bit, I'm so glad. This can only be vvvv tough for you all.
I like the way you're thinking: always a good policy to give a dr's treatment a good try...of at least a week...and some meds even need at least 3 months. But of course at any 'normal' bad reactivity to a treatment I ring the Dr and stop the treatment
My feeling is that the level of reactivity you're describing is v probably a v good sign....my experience is that heat produces almost as much rash as direct sun. I have a hard time with sunblock because I seem to react to the fillers...and I even react to prescription topical creams so much that I always try to get the ointment versions which seem more tolerable in my case
Please: when you can, let us know how things go

Good luck and try not to worry. Even if it is lupus then its not all doom and gloom!!!
Hi Daisy,
Seen the pics of your daughter & instantly thought whether it might be an allergy?
I've had similar rashes for years, often dismissed as urticaria but last year was particularly bad, covering my face & back was very similar to your daughter's.
Had patch testing in hospital & main allergy was to preservative methylisothiazolinone (methylchlroisothiazolinone)
I'd never heard of it but was horrified to find that it's contained in SO MANY products; Toiletries (even 'baby' or 'natural' ones), sun-cream, cleaning/laundry products, paint, glue etc.
There are safe alternatives, Aveeno being one, which made me wonder if this is what's happening to your little one.
There are a few good facebook groups on MI allergy, giving far more info than one might get from GPs who sadly seem unaware of the problem.
Hope this helps & good luck for getting a solution as soon as possible xx
Glad she's looking better today, so hopefully not that allergy then.
Might be worth checking out labels of things like your washing up liquid,
dishwasher tabs, fabric conditioner & apparently the 'big' offender, baby wipes, anything with '-olinone' in list of ingredients xx
Thank you Happykins, it's definitely worth baring in mind. We've been to the farm and garden centre today. It was very sunny. In some lights I think her rash has died down again and in other lights it looks redder? So strange!! Back at the dr's in the morning for another check up so I'm going armed with a long list of questions!!
