Borlotti Bean curry with red and wild rice

โ€ข14 Replies

Hi everyone, here's what I made for dinner tonight, its a curry with wild brown and red rice, the curry is Borlotti beans with various veg and a tin of chopped tomatoes with curry spices and chilli, so nice and easy.

Borlotti beans contain 10% protein and other nutrients including magnesium and iron, so they pack a nice nutritional punch. They are also called Cranberry beans because of their colour. ๐Ÿ˜Š

What I like about a curry is you just leave it cooking gently away until it's ready then just serve it and eat it.

Nice simple wholesome food too and I like that.

Hi Hidden ,

This sounds really good! I never had cranberry/borlotti beans before. Will see if I can find them the next time we decide to do a homemade curry. :-)

Hope you enjoyed your dinner tonight. :-)

Youโ€™re welcome! I like cranberries, so if they taste and look like them, too, I know they will be great in the next curry I want to do for dinner in the next few days.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

Hi Jerry, thinking about you this afternoon. Just checking our Borlotti Beans and thinking they are ready for picking. Some of them will go in our Chunky Chilli tomorrow.

Hi Alice home grown borlotti beans is impressive as is the large variety of crops you grow.

Chunky chilli sounds scrumptious to me so you enjoy it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Never heard of borlotti beans, thanks for letting us know about them. Your dish looks outstanding

in reply to Imaaan

Hey thanks Imaaan theyโ€™re also called French beans and Roman beans so you may have come across them under another guise, theyโ€™re cream coloured with cranberry marbling and theyโ€™re really healthy as well. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Looking forward to it. Makes a change from regular chilli and I use Lean cubed beef instead of mince. Make it as spicy as you like with the addition of chillies to taste. We have had a bumper bundle of chillies this year, several bags in freezer but lots given away.

This looks really tasty Jerry.

Where do you get your rice from? I've been looking for wild rice for a while, but I can only find it mixed through white rice.

in reply to Cooper27

Hey thanks Cooper, ๐Ÿ˜Š I buy wild red and black rice in my local whole food shop and am sure that H&B sell wild rice as well a good selection of others.

Hi Hidden

Your curry looks really great. I didn't realise that borlotti beans were also called 'cranberry' beans due to their colour. I like beans of any sort, they are nutritious and delicious. Yum!

Zest :-)
