Another option would be to use carob powder, finely chopped pieces of a carob bar, adding shavings from a carob bar, or finely chopped nuts as a topping, rather than use cocoa powder, chocolate chips & chopped chocolate in this recipe.

My husband was told Carob is much more healthy than Cocoa or chocolate. It was not until after he had died I read the ingredients on a carob bar wrapper - they are FULL OF SATURATED FAT!! He would have been happier enjoying the real thing. The only people they are good for are those with lactose intolerance!! Margyb

I'm intolerant to cows milk and chocolate, even dairy free, someone pointed me in the direction of carob and I love it to bits, but I've yet to meet someone else who eats it

I'm dreadfully sorry that you lost your husband, & please know I wouldn't have intentionally caused you, or anyone else, distress with my post.

I did mention carob powder & small pieces of a carob bar as an option, & also suggested finely chopped nuts as an alternative topping, but I do apologise if my post has caused offence, & would ask the moderators to please remove it if this is the case.

Your reply does highlight that food labels should be read, & taken into consideration especially if a person has health problems, or food intolerances.

Again, my apologies

Oh please don’t worry!!!! I certainly don’t want your post taking down!!

I was only wanting lactose intolerant carob eaters to know about the saturated fat content. It was most unusual for us not to have read the label, but we were told in our local old fashioned health shop how it was so much better than chocolate. We were silly to take that at face value. Margyb.
