Gluten free Vegan Chocolate Brownie 😊

Hi everyone,

I hope that you're all enjoying your weekend, I called in at my local Whole food shop this morning to buy some falafels and they have been stocking these chocolate brownies that are gluten free and vegan.

Being a diagnosed coeliac I need a gluten free diet so I benefitted in the interest in all things gf when people like Victoria Beckham were advocating a gf diet. But being into whole foods I feel that I have really benefitted from the surge in interest in veganism, because many artisan bought items are both gluten and diary free. So I embrace this interest in all things vegan as its fantastic for me.

As these really are free from and wholesome.

the brownie looks great Jerry, its also grate that you have now decieded to follow vegan diet.. i think thats only natural really as you are the administrator for a vegan forum.

i havent been a member for very long on this forum but i have noticed that there has been a lot more posts promoting it as more healthy way to live ..

personally i think that its making members feel uncomfortable to put on posts on what they eat if meat is in it.

i read about polls all the time but i have never seen one on my screen..

maybe i have missed something!

thank you so much for your reply, but in the interest of my own health i have decieded to leave.

to me healthy eating is what i give to my children and am not going to keep on reading that it not.

Hi happycook, I'm not a vegan I include as many healthy foods into my diet that I can and these are made with healthy ingredients.

HE is for anyone who is interested in eating healthily and many vegan snacks tick the right wholesome boxes for me. On coeliac sites I sit comfortably with vegan coeliac and paleo coeliac, as we have a common interest.

The interest in the vegan diet has grown from 500K to 3.5million in less than 18 months so the interest in a healthy vegan diet is very topical.

As a member of admin I support everyones choice of what is a healthy diet for them. Not all vegans are militant they have made an ethical choice, so wouldn't it be nice if we could all sit comfortably together and respects one another needs and choices.

So I'm sorry that you feel this way as that was not my intention.

It's hard not to step on someone's toes.

All of my Drs insist that Keto diet is unbalanced/very unhealthy (due to the excessive use of oil) but if it works for someone/others, it's none of my business. It's their body and I have my own "poison". I don't like it only when a certain protocol is vocally recommended as an absolute that everyone needs to follow, or preached without any invitation. I haven't seen this lately.

I personally feel that any baked goods/cakes posted may not be very helpful even with healthy ingredients e.g. nuts/gluten free as it contains so much oil as one of the key ingredients. Lots of people do overeat if they bake some cakes themselves and these may encourage eating more and more of this type of food when they suffer from diabetes, thinking it's a healthy recipe from the healthy eating site and assume that they can eat as much as they wanted. Overeating IS known to be one of the key issues many of us do face.

Showing a few squares of stylish-looking brownies don't bother me much. It's actually quite interesting to see visually. It's also a very small amount and is from a speciality store you buy as a little treat, not the whole loads of cakes all lined up, which might inadvertently encourage people to be baking cakes at home and eat it all at once. No offence, though. Just my take on this. I often think honesty is the best thing. . . So whoever voice their "sentiment" or feeling, it's only a good thing. . . . We understand each other more and that's how we learn from one another. . .and gain new insights.

I agree about being honest and I don’t post cakes on here very often for the very reason you state, however by being honest it shows that even tho’ I eat 5 a day I still eat treats sometimes but I am fit and healthy cycle a lot and I’m 5’10” and weigh 9.5 stone. So I can make these choices.

I know you eat gf and I bake all my own bread and cakes and used to have my own web site with gf bread cakes and biscuits so this is the attraction of being involved in VFL and here’s a post of mine that I didn’t put on HE for the reason you said. As I like making wholesome free from treats. 😊

That looks delicious Jerry and what a lovely treat.

As you know I make raw fruit bars and have read some of the comments below and what I do is cut my bars into a reasonable portion size i.e. around 45g and then wrap them individually and eat one at a time. Agree that you could easily overeat if making a whole cake etc but if you are sensible and cut them into portions there is no reason to overeat and this is why I use my freezer a fair bit as I freeze portions of food.

The wrapping up serving sizes/pieces sounds like a fantastic idea. That way, a person can keep the brownies for a longer period of time.

Thank you and yes it does go further. I'm trying to get my hubby to eat better but in the meantime if say I make a cheesecake (which I no longer eat as it's an unhealthy one and I find them too sweet now) rather than use a flan dish I now use individual little glass pots and get around 14 servings whereas we were only getting at the most 8 servings when using the flan dish.

We use Chinese carry out containers to keep leftover baked goods in after they've cooled off and we take the first servings for each person.

Yes my daughter does that as well and they come in really useful. I have old ice cream containers (I don't eat any shop bought ice cream anymore) and freeze my one pot meals in those.

Thats absolutely right Alicia its keeping portions in proportion. I make batches of biscuits/cakes and freeze them for a rainy day... and it rains a lot so thats good LOL. 😊
