Hello Isipingo firstly welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear this as I've had inflamed kidneys and know how debilitating that was for me.

Dear Isipingo

Sorry to hear your health condition...Jerry has rightly sent you links as how to follow a healthy diet ...

In your condition , your kidney may find it difficult to filter out the waste products such as urea, creatinine, uric acid , and may not be able to effectively filter out excess sodium , Potassium and phosphorus from blood. .

Wanted to add that everybody's kidney disorder could be due to different reasons and you should be in constant touch with your healthcare provider....

(1) The most important thing is that you need to keep your Blood pressure low. Any BP more than 120/80 could lead to gradual damage to the kidney...

After consulting with your Medical practitioner, you need to take medicines Either ARB or ACE inhibitor or a combo of such multiple drugs which would help not only to keep your BP under control..but also....

(2) ARB / ACE inhibitors would keep your Albuminuria and Albumin creatinine ratio under control..

(3) you should keep an watch on your blood haemoglobin level since your kidney may not be able to produce adequate erythropoietin-a harmone required for Hb production...

If required, your Doctor may prescribe you erythropoietin injections to enhance your HB level in the blood .

(4) you should also check for your vitamin d level.. vitamin D supplements may be required as kidney may not be helpful in helping to produce vitamin D.

(5) since phosphorus level in blood goes up in blood in case of kidney disorder, doctors do prescribe Phosphorus binders such as calcium acetate..

(6) kidney disease can be managed for years with proper medical care and diet, if you remain in constant touch with a Nephrologist and a Nutritionist..

(7) and it is not the end of life...

For an end-stage kidney disorder, fortunately, Renal transplant is something which is highly successful if you get a Live donor from your close/ blood relatives ...

Modern Dialysis is something which many people live for decades , until they get a donor.. though the quality of life do suffer to some extent...

May God bless you !

Hi Namaha, thank you for your reply. My dr put me on zanadip 10 for my pressure and iron tablets for my anemia.

Dear Isipingo

Though I am not a medical practitioner, Zanidip is lercanidipine hydrochloride which is a CCB- Calcium Channel blocker. It appears to be a new drug.. it may definitely help controlling your BP, but i am not sure about its Kidney protecting properties....

Hope you are consulting a kidney specialist or Nephrologist..

Please Never never consult a General practitioner or a general physician...

It is a matter of your Kidney and you deserve nothing less than a well experienced Nephrologist of a reputed hospital or clinic...

Please don't compromise on that... and follow all medical advice from a Nephrologist only...

Also on your low haemoglobin, please do cross check your HB level after 2 months of iron supplement .

If it does not respond to iron pills, please don't hesitate to consult your doctor to give you erythropoietin injections.

Low Hb in blood would mean that your oxygen carrying capacity would reduce and lt would lead to other complications.. please avoid anaemic condition

Hi Namah, I go to a urologist, he put me on a pressure tablet that made my legs swell extremely, and then consulted with a general physician and changed my tablets. My BP was 169/96 and yesterday it was 120/86. My urologist is going to admit me to do a ct scan and bring in my physician and gynaecologist to do tests as well.

Dear Isipingo

Nothing can substitute a well experienced Nephrologist who is a specialist in kidney, though urologist also deals with kidney to some extent , but his responsibilities is during surgery / renal transplant..

You are currently under medication. And you need the right kind of BP lowering drug which would also give additional protection to your nephrons of kidney.. that has to be prescribed by an experienced Nephrologist.
