Hi. I've been having stomach pains for 10 days now. Started off as mild sharp pains in the lower right abdomen, then got more tight and dull and was burning and now it is sharp pain that lasts a few hours to the right of my belly button.
I was worried about my appendix so I went to the doctor today and he said he couldn't feel anything wrong on my abdomen and didn't think it was my appendix as I would feel a lot worse by now. He basically just said if I still keep getting pain come back.
My diet is not too great and I don't exercise very much but it's definitely a new year goal. Is this a digestive issue that anyone has experienced or has any advice on? and can anyone help with what I can do short term to relieve the pain and long term to keep my stomach healthy? It helps when i stretch out but as soon as I stop the pain starts again. Would really appreciate it as I don't have a lot of people to talk to or discuss it with.

Hi Eternalsunshine. Couple things come to mind. Tackle easy things first; first is when was your last bowel movement and how often do you go? If you don’t have one at least once per day, you need both soluble and insoluble fiber. And you need to stay hydrated as your body needs water to absorb nutrients AND to remove toxins and waste products. Slow movement of foods through the gut can cause gas and discomfort.
You may need pre and probiotics, too, especially if you’ve recently received antibiotics or had severe diarrhea. Your gut flora has a huge effect on your health and comfort.
Hope this bit of info helps you. Your MD should be asking simple questions to determine the cause. Don’t ignore your body. Something is not right and this needs to be solved. Do not delay. Please seek another doctor!
Thank you for the reply! I definitely need to make changes so this is helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I will go back if nothing changes and see another doctor too, thank you
I wonder what is the magic about New Years Day that heralds change. Why not start now and make it a life goal to be as healthy as you can possible be?
For an alternative view, why not see a qualified acupuncturist. The great thing about acupuncture is that it complements your doctor's advice/treatment and supports healthy eating and exercise.
There's a chance this could be constipation or trapped wind. I would suggest increasing your veg intake so you're getting a bit more fibre, as this would help move things along.
Magnesium supplements or a little milk of magnesia (available from the pharmacy) could also help you in the short term, but speak to the pharmacist about its suitability & what sort of dose to take.
If this doesn't help & the pain remains or gets worse then obviously speak to your doctor again.
