Hi Shogg,Most packets of lentils usually have a suggestion of how long to cook them.

Now as the son of Indians parents red lentils was what was usually made & you will need to give them an overnight soak & in a pan you would make a broth of sorts & made sure any spices are cooked out throughly you would take te broth down to a simmer & then add the lentils. You could always look online for a specific recipes for the lentils you have.

I usually boil in chicken broth. I like red and black. I use them to make hummus as well as vegetable soups. Lots of recipes online. Have fun. Bon appetite.
