Have you talked with your doctor about the issue?

Crystal8787 please see your doctor about this. You have followed a link to the healthy eating site and may find some tips to help in the longer term with avoiding constipation through good diet but your current problem needs medical assessment and we are not qualified to advise.

Good luck, and once your current problem is sorted out, unless you have any health conditions which require specific advice from a healthcare professional, you might want to look at gradually increasing fibre, getting sufficient fluids and fat, and some regular exercise. 🍀

I think your doctor should be the one to help with this.

I'd suggest keeping a food diary for 7 days prior to your appointment, with notes about your bowel movements too. Your doctor might be able pick up on some issues from that.

If you can afford to, I'd also suggest visiting a BANT registered nutritionist, who will have more time to run through diet and supplements, e.g. a magnesium supplement can help to relax the bowels.

Out of interest, are you male or female?

Went to the hospital for mine, suffering cancer stage IV, tried suppositories and softeners for a week.... Good thing I went, if your healthy, and Not bleeding try magnesium citrate to drink at home.. It used to clean me out. But sounds like a bowel blockage. Go to hospital and they will give you that drink, an enema and the doctor will have to try to pull it out with his finger... But a huge relief.. Doctor or hospital, nothing to fool around with

I had this until 2 weeks ago and finally plucked up the courage to visit my GP. She said I had an anal fissure so got special creams and lactulose to help me go to the toilet and it’s worked a treat the lactulose alone. Hope you get it sorted as it’s horrible to suffer with!

Have you tried eating some prunes or prune juice at all? What is your diet like? Are you on any medication that will cause this?, 1st port of call is your doctor.

Dear Crystal8787,

I have had a Kidney Transplant, along with a 'few' other operations.... but NOTHING, is Worse than sitting there, finger up your 'Bum'- trying to shit a f..king Wardrobe! A, very dear friend, some years ago Literally BEGGED me to help her.... she hadn't 'been' for many weeks, the poor girl. She was actually Screaming, as she Strained- I, ended up, calling her an Ambulance. Fortunately Hospitals DO have some, very powerful drugs, at their disposal and, after an overnight stay, 'Sarah' (not her real name) DID get Considerable relief. The fact that, after she was 'unlogged', there was some 'Soiling' bothered her- Not A Bit!

For myself, yes I DO suffer from Constipation, a 'Fair Bit' (rather an Understatement that!) and use Senna- that seems to 'Work', for me. Unfortunately I tend to 'alternate' between Constipation, and Loose (not quite diarrhoea) bowels- at these times I often 'Mess' myself or, have to, 'Run' to a toilet. I do wear, 'pads' because I wet, and I can- IF I feel/ sense 'on coming Poos'- double up, my pads. NOT that this is always possible!

So, you see, Crystal8787 I do Understand, your Problems/ Dilemma- however, beyond suggesting that you 'speak to' your GP, or Hospital Doctors, I can't really offer much else. We ALL, have to, Struggle On (pun intended) as best we can. Sometimes some Cold Cream, or Petroleum Jelly, pushed up inside can help- a Bit anyway. For me Magnesium, is just, 'Too Brutal'- it, absolutely Kills, my insides..... and in about Two Days, I'm Constipated, worse than ever.

I'm assuming that, you are, a girl- 'Crystal' is normally a girl's name- in which case, try inserting a finger into your vagina, as you Strain..... one of my sisters does this- I'm NOT a Pervert, she told me!

Sorry, that I can't be More Help Crystal8787, hoping you DO get, at least, Some Relief.

Hi Andrew I have had a kidney transplant too, have you been told that there is a connection between constipation and kidney disease/kidney failure?

TheGutsGal profile image

Hi Crystal,

I too have had some pretty bad constipation, but got to be said never been as brave as you have lol.

Anyway, as the others say seek medical advice. My first port of call was a blood test but nothing showed so went to see a nutritionist.

She analysed the situ and said all of my symptoms added up to 'leaky gut syndrome' i know this is seen as a fad, a money maker lalala but in fairness all of the supplements she subscribed me have worked amazingly.

My number one tip is Oxy-tech, just have a google and see if its write for you. I take 7 capsules every day before i go to bed and my constipation is relieved. Mine was very severe before to the point, where i couldn't eat a lot and wouldn't poo for weeks!

Its not perfect without Oxy-tech i go back to my old self, so definitely go and see your Dr for a long term fix, but for effective short term relief, its natural, its effective and it doesn't stretch your colon!

First thing... keep hydrated... lots of water during the day. Reduce coffee intakes. Eat fibers, whole grain, vegetables. Also, talk to your doctor about that could soften your stools like Lax-a-day.

Years ago, during the war, a common cure for this condition was to cut the end off a bar of soap and insert it as far as you can, so it doesn't slip out, where the sun doesn't shine. After an hour or less you will really have to go and unload.

That's obviously why my surgeon prescribed glycerine suppositories at my 6 week clinic appointment. The opioids I was prescribed post-operatively caused extreme constipation for weeks. Half an hour after the first dose I was extremely happy (and several hundred grams lighter.) Sadly, I now have chronic constipation and prunes, figs, fruit and vegetables and drinking about 3 ½ to 4 litres a day no longer help me. I did find putting my feet on a stool to raise my knees above hip level helpful. I hope everyone feels better and lighter soon! 😉😊

This may seem uncomfortable but eating A LOT of prunes and running whilst or after eating them helps me a load.

hi crystal8787,

I suffered addiction for 25 years and have been diagnosed with narcotic bowel disorder my small intestine is practically dead and So dehydrated that it has gone inside l my large intestine. After a colonoscopy it was discovered that I have intersuseption of the bowel. Damage caused by opiate abuse. I've had sepsis three times as a result so it's very dangerous. Defo get it checked out to rule it out as it can be fatal. I have friend Who have died from there intestine bursting.

Good luck

a good way to empty your colon is apparently to drink a wa glass of water with 1 or 2 tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda or salt. I say apparently because I'm yet to attempt it given the expected certainty that it totally empties all poop rather violently and is unstoppable nor controllable.

Good luck
