Constipation
If you have a severe problem then professional help is important, especially if this is a change for you.
I'm assuming you've already tried increasing fibre in your diet, drinking more fluids, increasing exercise, giving yourself plenty of time and privacy, making sure you have your feet solidly planted on something secure (many people benefit from using a step)... plus over the counter remedies (especially stool softening and osmotic type laxatives)
Sometimes certain foods can cause a paradoxical reaction in particular individuals.
Hi Maja54
There is some information about 'Constipation' on NHS pages - and a link is here if you want to have a look:

I very much hope that you will feel better soon - and that you'll consult with your GP or health professional, as required.

I find I get constipated if I don’t drink enough water and don’t exercise enough - walking a few miles every day will usually get things going - but if it becomes chronic it is very hard to get back to normal.
It is a good idea to see your doctor to rule out any medical causes.
Things that helped me - Drinking a tablespoon of Flax seeds soaked in water for a few hours - makes a glutinous mess and doesn’t taste good but is effective and better than taking laxatives as kinder to the gut.
Ensuring your gut flora is healthy by eating lots of green leafy veg as well as other prebiotics.
Kefir - I tend to make my own and my gut prefers water to dairy.
Unfortunately I’ve not found any instant or easy way to keep ‘regular’ and do sympathise as I have a constant struggle to keep it at bay and found that prevention through ensuring I drink 6-8 glasses of water a day on top of any other drinks, mounds of raw and lightly cooked vegetables, walking everyday and Ayurvedic stomach massages and a well known Ayurvedic cure called Triphala which I take most days are the only long term and sustainable answers for me.
Hope some of that helps.
PS - I would also add that I take a medication which is know to cause severe GI tract complications - no-one mentioned that some meds can cause constipation so if you are taking anything do consider.
A high-fibre diet appears to reduce the risk of developing various conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, diverticular disease, constipation and colon cancer. Fibre is important for the health of the digestive system and for lowering cholesterol.
Most people should have a fibre intake of 30g daily but the truth is most people have half that or less which is not very good for the digestive system, my way around this is to have a Chia pudding every day, sometimes for breakfast sometimes for lunch! Besides being very tasty it gives me 20g of fibre and with my other meals combined it takes me over the 30g of fibre every day, plus its only 29 carbs = 9 net carbs in total. Half a cup of Alpro Coconut milk, 3 tbs of Chia seeds, 1 tsp of honey if you wish, 20g of Alpro Coconut Yoghurt. Mix it all and then put it in the fridge for 3 hours or overnight then add the blackberries or raspberries and the yoghurt (100g) of Blackberries, YUMMY.
I take magnesium supplements for a number of things, one of which is to prevent constipation. I take it daily but it’s also good for the thyroid, the heart, it helps with vit d if you take that and the main reason I take it is it lowers my blood pressure without having to take blood pressure tablets.
I hope it helps.
Eating prunes at night or having a glass of prune juice. I sometimes buy maximum strength senakot from chemisit helps.
Porridge made with oatmeal or whole oats soaked overnight with 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds. Fresh fruit with skins on. Water, lots of it and exercise.
If it's got to the impacted stage ( where faeces are lodged in your lower bowel or rectum and are hard and solid) needs medical help.
Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Dried figs! A lovely sweet treat to nibble on when you are hungry, and very effective. Another very enjoyable high fibre treat are Allbran Muffins...you can google the recipe. Most important is drink loads more water
Fibre, fibre, fibre. Increase the good carbs, reduce the fat and slowly constipation will disappear.
As a first step ensure each day starts with a large bowl of porridge. Most people make this with cows milk, but add some water to it as well. Later add more water. Eventually you will love it with just water. Add some fresh fruit especially a sprinkling of blueberries. The only side effects are more energy slowly released across your morning.

I’m not sure about your medication, but if it’s any kind of pain killer it will give you constipation. Your medical team should be helping you to manage this. It may be that a fibre supplement would help you.
