Hi folks just a word of warning, two weeks ago I started on the Keytone diet, very low carb, protein and a balance of fat, but a lot more fat than I would normally eat. All went well untill yesterday. I had a TIA, ie a mini stroke, very scary, I am on beta blockers and warfarin, so the question is , was I silly to attempt a high fat diet, I did research and at the time it sounded ok as the fat would be used up etc but perhaps before one totally gets into Ketosis , maybe it hangs around or does damage. I don’t know and am still trying to find out so any info would be good. I have obviously stopped that diet now and will just try to eat sensibly. It is hard because I am sure health wise it is better to be thinner, less stress on all body parts but how to get there is hard. Any views ?

Very welcome, Fruitcake100. 😌 🙏
I hope 🙏 you’re feeling better 😌 & are getting over the fright 😱 of what happened.
You are ‘living proof’ of how what we put in our mouths 👄 & how we live our lives is critical.
. . . It’s a ‘wakeup call’. 📞😳
Thank gawd you survived to tell the tale!! 🤗
Gawd bless ya 👼 , dear Fruitcake100, for courageously sharing your experience so we can all learn from it.
Wishing you speedy recovery & return to full, robust health. 😌 🙏

We are behind you every step 👣 of the way . . . 👍👍
Please bear in mind ( 🐻 🧠 ) though, that we all come from different backgrounds with different dietary & lifestyle experiences & ’philosophies’. Some differences work for some of us & not others, so please be wary 🧐 before deciding to make any future dietary ‘tweaks’ based on ‘what people on forums say’. ☺️
A huge ‘grain of salt’ ⚪️🧂 (critical thinking 🤔 💭) is needed. 😬
You may want to carefully research 🕵️♀️ & consider 🤔 before you take on (‘ingest’) any further dietary/ lifestyle changes & continue to work hand in hand 🤝 with your medics 👩⚕️ 👨⚕️ .
Since your medics have you on beta blockers 💊 & warfarin 💊 , kindly remember with appropriate (‘appropriate for you’) dietary & lifestyle changes, you might (MIGHT) eventually be able to reduce (& maybe even ‘wean off’?) them should your medics & you assess it’s safe to do so? 🤔
If one of your goals is to still lose weight, remember ‘slow & steady’ — slow ‘n steady . . .
Please be lovingly 🥰 patient with yourself as you allow yourself time to heal & gradually — over time — to shed weight. 🙏 😌
. . . No pressure 🚫 🗜, no fuss, no muss . . . 😄
And, don’t hesitate to also reach out to trusted loved ones for support. Your family 👨👩👧👦👨👩👦👦 & friends 💑👨❤️👨 wish the best for you, as do we here. 😌 🙏 🍀 🌺 🌞

Hi Fruitcake100 and poor you! I hope that you make a full recovery and feel better soon.
Whether this short dietary change caused the mini stroke is not established so I'd take it as not just a warning but a loud warning that something has to change and my advice is take the meds and the Dr's advice and get yourself referred to a dietician who will give you an individual diet plan as they will be able to factor everything in for individual guidance.
Obviously eating a balanced diet full of nutrients will help your body recover and I think you need to relax and let your body recuperate gently, so be nice to yourself and take things one day and one step at a time.
Thats my advice and I wish you well and please do let us know how you get on as you will get lots of support on here.
By the way I love your user name...
Jerry 😊
If you only started this diet two weeks ago and you been having heart problems for a very long time..did you not have an heart attack before at some point..I only say that because I read beta blockers were for people who have already had heart attacks .
Hope you have made a full recovery and taking the advice of your doctors.
You could put this post on the LCHF forum as ..I think they will try and help you with this..

I've been doing a bit more reading about beta blockers and I can see doctors will prescribe them for different reasons..
I'm sorry to hear about your stroke, and hope you're doing ok now! It's really frightening when something like that happens.
My mum had a pulmonary embolism, and from my understanding of blood clots due to that, unless you've had a trigger (e.g. long haul flight/been in an accident), it's probable that the clot has been building up for quite a while (months/years), and has possibly been pumped around the body a few times over (which can take several days), before finally deciding to lodge where it did.
I think starting a new diet 2 weeks ago is unlikely to have had time to cause a clot to build up in your arteries, although I couldn't rule out that the change of diet could cause an existing clot to break away.
I personally think that activity levels play a big part in whether we will develop blood clots or not, so would encourage you to look at building up exercise levels (even if it's just to go for a walk every day).

Sorry to hear about your conditions. It is highly unlikely that this can be caused by dietary changes in such a short period. Some comments from a cardiologist on this subject:
Hi Fruitcake100
My condolences on your experiences. I just wanted to wish you a relaxing weekend, and hope that you are recuperating and receiving good support and appropriate help.

Hi Fruitcake - I don't know the answer to your question, but wanted to say get well soon. You're hopefully on the road to recovery now, take care and look after yourself.
