Hi it is ten days after my cholecystectomy and my first day on Health Unlocked. I am so glad and grateful to have the procedure done and only felt nauseous while coming round from the anaesthetic and mint tea is good for that. I am continuing eating a normal diet as advised and all is working well. I have fatty liver so can't eat saturated animal fat, I am vegetarian but have eaten oily fish during the post op recovery period. I don't mind the temporary discomfort whilst healing and look forward to a life ahead with no more painful cholecystitis attacks. If you have any tips on best fat free food for healing after surgery I would be very grateful.

Hi Silvermagenta ,

This might be helpful for you, it is a link to an article about suggested foods to eat after cholecystectomy:

verywell.com/foods-to-eat-a...

Hope it is helpful to you.

Thank you for the link I have had no stomach pain or diarrhoea everything is working fine there and am eating all the foods I ate before the op. I just wanted to know best foods for healing up the scars and discomfort of incision locations both externally and internally.

I am sorry, I didn't read your post carefully enough, and rushed in with a diet link - I apologise. I've had a cholecystectomy myself a few years ago, and I found that things healed up extremely well - I guess I would be able to see the incision locations if I looked for them, but it would be difficult to spot - I think Bio-oil was helpful for me, but I didn't use it very often.

I don't know what foods would help with the healing process - but hope you heal up well and that you're comfortable.

I don't reveal my age on these platforms but if you have any dietary advice on post surgery healing as per my original enquiry I would be grateful.

I am so glad and find it highly commendable that you have effectively saved your own health in this way. Here in the U.K. we have the NHS. I wonder if there are charatiesor health organisations that could help others in your situation by learning from what you have done. Wishing all the best.

I have to be careful about what I eat I have whole grain bread occasionally and don't eat refined carbs or sweets. I like the Nakd bars they are made by pulverised fruit and nuts. I feel ok now that I know.

Thanks left the dressings to fall off naturally, then with one of the scars, daily cleaning with sterile Cotten Wool, previously boiled cooled water with salt, each day is looking better no signs of infection. Been taking fruit/carrot juice with added vitamins too.

I had surgery June 1st this year. During my recovery I found it helpful to cook all my veggies so they were soft and make sure to chew them well before swallowing. Easier to digest! So much happier after surgery. I ask myself now, why did I wait so long?

Just an add on note to my surgery post: I just had my follow-up labs; cholesterol down to 195, lost 20 lbs. Good cholesterol up, bad cholesterol down. Glucose down, not in pre-diabetes any longer. I can eat citrus again, have a glass of wine, eat tomatoes, life is good again. Feeling more healthy and happy.

I had my gallbladder out about 5 months ago. It's a long ongoing road to recovery. I have gotten on mostly well after surgery with no bad side effects, although I'm still quite sensitive to some foods and overating tends to give me a lot of pain. Eat a clean healthy diet, that's the best advice one can offer. Limit animal products, especially dairy and pork. Eat more fruits and veggies. Carbs are fine just no refined carbs. You may also benefit from eliminating gluten which taxes the liver.

Dandelion and artichoke tea help a lot.

Since you also have liver problems like I do, it is reccomended to limit sodium intake. Go easy on the salt, don't eat fast food or processed packaged food. Absolutely avoid vegetable oils like canola oil or sunflower oil - pure posion for the liver and heart.

Thank you so much for replying and sharing what works for you. I occasionally eat olive oil but not anything that has been cooked in it with black bits like oven roasted veg for example. Great that you're managing it well.
