Hi mots ,
It's great that you've joined the Healthy Eating forum. I don't now if you've seen the Healthy eating pages, which are linked via NHS Choices but if you want to have a look, a link is here:

Hi mots
Welcome
Hello, Mots. It's great to know you want to lose weight. Although you didn't categorically state your weight goal i would do my best to help. Neglecting all the food you know and have been eating might not be the best option as your body has learnt to metabolize those foods. My advice is this, if you don't have any health challenges, you can make this basic changes to your meals. Eat small meals like 4 times a day. Have your last meal of the day before 9 pm and take only tea or fruits thereafter. Swap your white carbs for brown, for example, brown rice instead of white. You should also swap your white bread for wheat bread.
You need to increase your physical activity. I advise you to start slow. Take a 30-minute stroll the first day and increase it gradually. If you can, take a jog instead. Remember to take it easy with yourself. Weight loss is a gradual process. If you are persistent, you will see results. Good luck.
