I have always suffered with insomnia & manage this most of the time using various methods including medication.

I've been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder secondary to an injury I sustained at work & my insomnia is back worse than ever.

Any advice would be gratefully received

Hi mama27 ,

This is the Healthy Eating forum, so it's unlikely that we can really comment too much on insomnia here - but I'm sorry to hear you're suffering with your frozen shoulder following your work-related injury.

I would suggest clicking on the button 'browse communities' and then putting the word 'insomnia' in the 'search window' and then you'll see any previous posts about insomnia, and maybe something will be relevant to your query.

I don't know if there is a community in Health Unlocked related to sleep difficulties - but maybe browse the communities and have a look.

It might be worth checking with your doctor in the first place as well, to get some medical advice.

Zest :-)

I will search in communities.

Many thanks for your reply

I hope you find something - maybe try the Pain Concern forum?

All the best and hope your shoulder improves soon.

Sometimes, shoulder issues are common for diabetics, as well.

I'm not diabetic

I injured my shoulder at work causing an impingement which has now led to a frozen shoulder

I've found some!

Hi. I suffered with insomnia when I had a frozen shoulder a couple of years ago. So sorry to hear you have this as it is absolute agony. I was given medication but didn't take it at the time, instead I saw a physio who worked on it a bit and then told me to push for a cortisone injection which really helped. You could speak to your doctor about that. Mine took a full 18 months before it was completely better and I was able to do things like do up my bra! but the pain was manageable after the injection.

Hi. I've always suffered with insomnia since a very young age. It comes in bouts. I have been taking Temazepam when I get desperate but usually rely on holistic remedies.

Since injuring my shoulder my insomnia is back with a vengeance. I have been taking prescribed meds from GP & had steroid injection 3 weeks ago which as you say has helped with the pain immensely.

I have my 2nd physio session tomorrow.

Scan showed frozen shoulder secondary to an impingement (caused by injury)

I am desperate to get back to work so I am seeing my gp again on Friday as although I'm not in constant pain I am experiencing cramps and spasms in that arm.

I'm on 50mg of Amitriptiline & it still wakes me up.

I work in the medical profession so I know how long these things can take to fully heal. I am not a good patient. Am feeling very low as can't do much whilst stuck at home either!!

Nice to chat

The medication obviously isn't working for you. Why not try a natural method of getting to sleep instead. There is a free email course available run by a retiree who is simply trying to help others. People say they've been cured of insomnia after doing only the first two lessons. If you want to try it just send an email to a1attunement.com and ask for details of the course. It's perfectly genuine and there are no charges at all.

I have a couple ways of dealing with insomnia.

1. ASMR- if you haven't heard of this, look it up on YouTube. It's basically a type of video where the uploader relaxes you via triggers such as whispering and typing. My favourite ASMR channels are gentlewhispering, amalzd, waterwhispers and asmr powerofsound. Best way of falling asleep is listening to asmr through sleepphones. These are comfy headphones that you can wear whilst sleeping.

2. Natural vitality natural calm drink - this is a powdered drink for anxiety and insomnia. It really is wonderful, it relaxes me and keeps me relaxed for hours.

Hope this helps

Insomnia & frozen shoulders are common with hypothyroidism.

Acupuncture would help the symptoms, but not treat a hormone deficiency.
