I was wondering if anyone else has got fatty liver I have been put on a fat free sugar free diet I'm struggling with the weight I have now starting 45mins of walking too but my weight will not budge has anyone got ideas that could help I forgot to say I'm a 61yr old female and don't drink alcohol

hi val i just want to say hello as i posted that link below to quick. you will get pleny of good recipes here. Its almost impossible to eat a fat free diet. also those low fat foods in the supermarket are not healthy nor good as they are chemically treated and usually full of sugar to make up for the low fat. We need good fats for our bodies to funciton properly. epecailly the kind of fats in nuts seeds and fish.. Just eat less. eat pleny of fruit and vegetables. not to much fruit as there is sugar in it although its not the same as that proseesed sugar but i still would not take to much fruit if your trying to loose weight. stay away from biscuits buns cakes and shorbreads and pizz'as and creamy pasta and not to much cheese. butter is good for us. its better than those low fat spreads with are chemically treated. just use a very little. we need to enjoy our food or we wont stick to it and will go back to eating all the wrong things again. try and stick to making your foods from scratch. it becomes easeir and a joy to the more you do it. all the very best. love grace xoxoxo

yes there is more in fruit than fructose and i read you would need to eat lots and lots of it for the amount of fructose to be harmful. although as i mentioned to Val best not to eat to much if one wants to loose weight. but do eat some as its good for us.

I think we should read this line keeping in mind the NAFLD condition. Alcohol in small quantity may be good for healthy person, but it is harmful for a person with liver condition.
Sugar may be a good source of instant energy, but will be harmful for a diabetic.
Therefore we must read all these lines keeping in mind with specific conditions.

I think this advice is for healthy person.
Further there are many such advises rolled back after further studies. E.G. Cholesterol/ancel keys experiment.
I think Hidden and Hidden will be able to tell you lot about such advises.
NAFLD is reversible condition, and there is connection between fructose and NAFLD. And therefore, I don’t think in order to cut back fructose ....avoiding fruits for some time (till condition improves) will be harmful.

The American Heart Association recommends limiting the amount of sugar you get from sugar-sweetened drinks, pastries, desserts, breakfast cereals, and more, mainly to avoid gaining weight. The same strategy could also protect your liver and your arteries.

The point of that study is that NAFLD is associated with rise in excess fructose consumption caused by its addition in the form of supplementations like high fructose corn syrup, not because people are eating too much fruit.
The simple take away message is to eat natural foods close to their natural state and avoid refined, processed and artificially supplemented foods.

However my argument for eating natural foods is not due to the naturalistic fallacy - that foods are good because they are natural - but rather based on the empirical evidence that more natural and less processed foods tend to be healthier. I am not a fan of the paleo argument either, in part for this reason.

Like Honey is good and Ghee is also good.. but combination of same is equal quantity is bad...
milk is good fish also good...but consuming milk after consumption of fish is bad.
Also it is suggested that when we consume mango the same should be added with pinch of black pepper powder and ghee.
Entire traditional Indian food system is based on this principal.
However,like when we get some wound and if that body part is soar..it is wise to avoid further injury and should be extra careful.We should try to give more rest to that part/organ and not to add more burden.

In year 2005 during my regular health check up they diagnosed me for ' NASH' (advanced NAFLD)
I never drink alcohol….no soda… we Indians eat only whole grain.. No pizza no pasta..lots of vegetables..
So no additional fructose…
Then what could be the reason???
Yes…thinking fruits are healthy was eating lots of fruits… lots of Indian sweets… and fruits and carbs is deadly combination..
I love fruits….
Within few years doctors told me about my blood pressure..
And within next few years.. Diabetes..with 13+ Hba1c.
They wanted to put me on statin and Victoza..
I refused…
Luckily while surfing I landed on Diabetes India forum on HU.
Started reading discussions… Mr Hidden and few others were strongly advising everyone to go for low carb and fructose free.
I thought to give it a try…and now my Hba1c is 5.8 ,last scan shows mild fatty liver..BP normal..cholesterol perfect…lost about22 kgs and around 9 inches around waist.

val, i dont eat lots of fruit but i like lemon in hot water in the morning and i have a few berries with my porridge and salad and eat a peice of fruit most days. . i eat lots of vetables too and make a lot of soup. its very upsetting when we think we have something sorted out and someone says something different. i tend to go on what my bodys feels like. some people make smoothies every day with lots of fruit so i dont think i want to do that. i also enjoy a few grapes. also i tend to go on what the british liver foundation says , that link about the fruit, i'v posted the last part of that same link that cure posted. wishing you well. love grace xoxo

Hi, I have the same I've read going gluten free and not reading after six pm, eating small regular meals during the day and drinking 10 glasses of water so basically a glass of water an hour. Depending on your BMI, water app can work it out how much is good for you to drink. Cut out fructose which include fruits eat raw veg for snacks. Aerobic exercise burns fat. Hi Anup that sounds like very good advice! I was on a low fat diet for years and used to walk everyday for an hour but have not walked at all this year have been eating lots of sugary foods and have gained about 6kg one stone and don't like it at all. Will try cut the carbs and sugar and see how I manage

However liver is such organ that it recovers on its own if given rest.
So best thing is give it rest.
im replying to anup who said "They are never wrong, only thing is they think they can cure NAFLD with medications" this was about the british liver trust. so he was stating that. so im asking him what ones they give. iv certainly never heard of any medications for NAFLD i was told to change my diet. ARe you sure that liver disease gets better given rest. Thats not totally true. i want to eat fruit as i'v alread told you.

This is complete rubbish. The british liver trust advises a complete diet change and does not offer any medications to cure NAFLD . You can see from this link they recommend loosing weight and diet.
