ACC and Loss of potential earnings

in NZ we have an accident compensation scheme. It is a scheme which cover many accidents including SA. If you’re covered and were first injured with a mental injury as a result of SA before age of 17 and were unable to work as a result of that you can qualify for loss of potential earnings. I decided to apply, was accepted and back dated to 1992 when this was first legislated for. The number crunching happened and two weeks ago I was paid out. LOPE is paid at 80% of the minimum wage.

I didn’t expect it to be much, but it was the validation that although I had periods of time when I worked in great jobs I woukd get triggered and be off work for years again. That as a result if SAs I couldn’t work for very long periods of time.

I’m sharing this mainly to say fight for what’s your particular disability system in your country as once received it’s so very validating.

I'm glad you were compensated with something. It won't change the event but it does solidify the fact that awareness of harm is being acknowledged
