Metoprolol Tartrate and Zoloft compatible?

my question is; i take 25mg of metoprolol tartrate twice daily for a rapid heart rate i was having two years ago when i was having a round of terrible anxiety. I am to take 25mg of Zoloft that was prescribed by my psych, but when i look online i see that the two medications do not work very well together and the zoloft can intensify the effects of the metroprolol causing very slow heart rate. I would like to know if anyone has used the two medications together and if so how they did. My doctor did say that once i started taking the zoloft that i could possibly quit taking the metoprolol tartrate so im wondering if the two medcations work the same?

any advice on this would be appreciated.

I don't think they work quite the same, Nervousgirl0714.

Zoloft is an antidepressant and metoprolol is used for lowering blood pressure and heart rate.

If they have interactions, it's important that you see a GP to validate your concerns.

If you start feeling unwell, you need to go quickly to your GP.

If you no longer have issues with rapid heart rate like you used to, the doctor might take you off metoprolol but that's something you need to talk to the doctor.

Thanks for your reply. I was also having very high b/p along with heart rate and just an abnormal heartbeat. They also told me when I was put on this that metoprolol would also help with my over the top anxiety, but hasn't to the extent i need. Anxiety and depression run hand in hand so I was then prescribed the zoloft, which i know would probably help me alot. Just dont want to be slowed down too much and falling asleep

I take metoprolol XR and Zoloft for years no problems. If you do take a high dose of metoprolol it will give you palpitations with the Zoloft. Two totally different medications. Ones for blood pressure and lowers your heart rate. Zoloft is anti depressant, anxiety & used for OCD

hi Deb,

thank you so much for replying to my posts. I am to take 25mg of zoloft with the 50mg of metoprolol tartrate. just wanting to make sure the two together won't drop my b/p and heart rate too much, as i live alone. i also don't want to have the dreaded heart issues again i was having when prescribed the metoprolol. talk about anxiety! i had it through the roof and multiple trips to the ER with tons of hospital bills to pay. i was scared so i would go flying to the hospital. last time i went my heart rate was 190bpm, so i really knew i needed to take the beta blocker

You’ll be fine. Never had any problems myself. I know when that anxiety kicks in the heart rate goes up. I learned to breath smell the roses blow out the candle it’s called. Breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Do this a bunch of times it helps. ❤️

Message anytime 😉
