PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD??

I think I fit into several categories on these forums. For me they are all one in the same. My anxiety has led to PTSD, both PTSD and Anxiety have magnified my ADHD. Or was it the other way around? Untangling which one happened first is hard to say.

Now, I am in a support group for substance use disorder, even though I don't believe I abuse alcohol or substances. It's called seeking safety because the focus is on PTSD..... I just don't find I can relate to the group because most of the topics are about substance use rather than PTSD. Anyone else have experience with this?

What other techniques or therapy have worked for you?

Welcome to the community

It's very true that there is overlap in symptoms with many mental health illnesses.

I'm sorry you don't feel this support group you are in is meeting your needs. Have you started the search for something that may be more specific to your needs?

I did EMDR therapy and found it very helpful. It desensitized my traumas and gave me more clarity as I continued with my different forms of talk therapy.

This is a very supportive community. I see you have posted on the A&D site as well. You will notice that many members overlap into different communities.

Hi loveuzoei,

Welcome to the community.

I don't have ADHD so I can't comment but hope others will be able to help.

I am wondering if the group therapy perhaps isn't the right fit.

I wonder if perhaps a trauma therapy would be more helpful...

I found somatic experiencing method (Peter Levine) helpful.

Hi there loveuzoei,

I have all three, too, so I can relate in so many ways. I discovered that it took me a lot of trial and error before I found a therapist and therapy groups that I really felt a good fit with. In other words, maybe testing out a few different therapy groups might help you achieve the support your truly looking for :)
