This is a brave (sort of) attempt to post a photo! Cross your fingers!
OMG, I think it worked! I was so fortunate to watch this Monarch butterfly get ready to fly after emerging from it's chrysalis. My property is an official Monarch way station in rural Missouri, and I have loads of milkweed for them to chew on. This just made my day, this last summer!

Not my best photo, but one that was a positive lift for that day! I wish I had my old Pentax Spotmatic with it's one-to-one focusing macro lens, but it only shot film
Isn’t it amazing I see this monarch butterfly is in Missouri and here am I in New Zealand and we have the exact same monarch butterfly here. I’m reminded that while the waters may seperate countries the world is a small place and we are connected person to person through technology as well. The world is becoming a much smaller place.
Fantastic that your property is an official Monarch way station, as there are so few of them left nowadays, because society nukes the 'weeds' that only they eat. (A weed is only a plant in the 'wrong' place from our perspective).
In my youth, I remember seeing tree branches heavy with thousands of Monarchs, clustered together in protection from the morning frosts. The trees were alive with flickering orange. It will be sad to loose them and the mystery of how they travel thousands of miles to a place they've never been before, so I hope your efforts prevent that.
It's so great to hear from you, Neil! Please keep posting!
Here, we are planting more milkweeds that monarchs love, and there is a growing movement to support their growth and return.
They are incredible! They go through 3 generations to leave Canada, fly through the United states, and end up in Mexico. How do they know how to do all that!?
