I’m not ready to take meds or do therapy. I love my life, I don’t want to go in this new realm of medication and therapy I’m going to loose all sense of who I am. I’m never going to be the same again.

Hi BooG,

What kind of meds and therapy are you referring to? Really drastic changes, or heavy-duty stuff? Because I don’t think losing yourself, and/or your happy life, is necessarily a given, is it? It doesn’t have to be. Talk to your Drs and ask your options, and their recommendations.

Healing, and dealing, can be a slow process. You can make gradual changes, and add medications, and therapy to help you more permanently deal with your circumstances. I look at it as adding strength, and making your future more stable, and sustainable by evaluating how meds and therapy may help you both now, and especially later.

Is there a positive /up-side for you, in starting meds and therapy? Hope you feel better soon. 🍄 🌸 🌞

Hi TheBooG,

It's true that life after trauma isn't the same again...but the purpose of healing is that you can have a life without the symptoms again.

You don't have to agree on all the medications, you can look up the side effects and discuss with your doctor. There are different options.

It's your choice how fast you do those things and if you are not ready, you can tell this to your therapist.

Pushing to do this may be not a good idea.

When you are ready you can start and put 100% into it.

It takes time to process this and be ready....

I do wish you all the best. In my experience (I have had therapy for depression and am currently having EMDR,) good therapy will help a person become more like themselves, stronger and able to see themselves more clearly. I used to think very badly of myself. Through therapy I found this was partly because I saw myself as I thought my father had seen me. That helped me to free myself and drop that burden.

You don't have to do anything. Medication isn't necessary, its not like a 2 for 1 sale...and i personally have a problem with dr.s, therapists who act like its a given. There are many people who feel it important to face things without medication and also many who feel saved by it. Its so important to keep your autonomy, and if you choose therapy then someone who honors this.

Well you have to find your healing path. If that works without therapy and medication then go that route.
