There are 2 types of ESA, contribution and income based, you got contribution based ESA paid from when you were working, and put in WRAG which ends after 12 months. You do not qualify for income based ESA due to your husbands income, that is the amount of money you have coming into your household.
The moral of the tale is, anyone on contribution based ESA with a husband or wife working, and put in WRAG, must appeal for SG or it will end in 12 months.
whats the support group please x
I would seriously suggest considering working from home. Even on my worst days when I am bed bound I can work, from my bed with a laptop or phone. I gave up on ESA as the amount was such a pittance for what you had to go through to get it. There are loads of companies who use home based telemarketers, and if you have no other skills this is the easiest role to get into, especially if you are good at talking on the phone, and can use a pc/laptop. There are freelance websites where people and companies post work that they require doing. You can bid for these jobs. People Per Hour is one of these sites.
I feel so much better that I do not have to rely on benefits, I set my own hours and work from the comfort of my own home.
The current roles I am doing are:
Call taking for a Disco company - I take enquiry calls & bookings. I have to make myself available between 10am - 10pm 7 days a week, but that does not mean I have to be at my desk for all that time. I am paid £50 per week and I get about 1 call a day on average.
Telemarketing - I have to call people who have responded to an advert to see whether they are still interested and if they are, check there emails. - I work Mon - Fri 6pm - 8pm and get £8 per hour. = £80 per week
Income Recovery Clerk - I have to phone social housing tenants who are behind with their rent and try and arrange payment plans for them. I work Tues & Weds 10am - 1pm and get paid £12 per hour = £72 per week.
Content Writer - I write company descriptions for a directory listing to a set criteria. Work is sent each morning and I have 24 hours to return them. On average I get 10 a day, and generally complete 5 per hour and am paid £3 per listing. So on average earn £150 per week.
So I am working an average of 30 hours per week, with an average weekly income of £352. All from my own home.

I have been sending in sick notes since Jan and so far not been allowed any ESA at all they say I havnt paid enough contributions despite my nat ins being direct debit each month need to check that...they say I cant get income based as hubby has just got part time job doing evenings in a supermarket doing 24 hrs apparently this is the cutoff point were he working 23 hrs I would get some income based ESA.....I have run 4 of my own shops since 1990 but had to close the last in 2010 as can no longer do it.....I do get some working tax credits as I had been trying to work from home also via my own website and ebay store maybe this is the way to go ??? ...............hubby just got this job as frankly we are sooooo behind with fuel bills just wanted to get upto date but just had letter from council they now want £250 a month council tax will probably loose his working tax credits as they have changed the amount you can earn from £10,000 down to £5,000 and he earns just slightly over that so by the time everything has been took off us he is probably going to be doing 3 x 8 hour night shifts for about £150 a month......what happened to helping people back to work......makes me sick,,,,,,,,,my husband is a retired Research Scientist from ICI and I have been a self employed Antique Dealer for over 25 sadly he got made redundant in 1994 and I in 1990 so set up our own business which due to the ups and downs of my illness (now all downs Im afraid) suffered greatly so simply had to close in 2010 and had no help since.............seems you cant be self employed and be ill !!!!! .................think working from home when it suits the strains of the illness is probably the way forward, at least then you can say you are still trying to work despite the illness and have the self esteem that working brings ......
At the end of 365 days it automatically stops but you need to call them and tell them your illness has deteriorated and you want to re-apply for ESA
