Might be the meds. I know gabapentin does it ot me!!!!

I get it as well, I thought it was a need for new glasses so

Had them checked and no different from last time

I'm not on gabapentin, and I'm not a diabetic

I think it's fibro

I get It from time to time... got my eyes checked at opticians .. Fine... Then read dosulepin instructions ...can cause blurred vision.... Duh ...

What dose of dosulepin are you on? My doctor keeps putting my dose up and I have started getting blurred vision as well as other strange side effects.

Fibro can cause issues with focusing and tired eyes, but it doesn't cause specific vision problems. Many medication given for Fibro can affect the eyes though.

It's best to get your eyes checked by an optometrist (who should really check your tear function is okay) and then see your GP about this. It could be meds, it could be another condition (e.g. Sjogrens Syndrome), but without getting checked out, you can't know.

Lindsey, that's a very sensible answer.

My own experience of having had fibro for over 30 years is that it definitely causes erratic vision. I think the problem lies in the cilliary muscles (which pull the lens into the right position to focus clearly on things) being unable to work normally all the time. Some days, I have to wear my middle range glasses to see the TV, others I can get away with my usual long-range specs.

Everything fluctuates in a fibro body, because of the relentless imbalances the body has to try and contend with, so muscle strength is a definite variable. Think of the times when your legs actually work almost normally, then hours/ minutes later just give up and collapse on you.

Just yet another one of the frustrations of fibro.

Aisha, let us all know how you get on. Good luck ! :-)

I had my eyes retested a few months ago as I was having blurred and strained vision. The optician said that it was due to being tired that I was experiencing focusing problems but once they had focused, then my sight was the same, so there is nothing that they could do.

I answered lemonzilla's blog about focus prob's and blurred vision with this -

I have the same problems with my eyes.

sometimes the image in one eye freezes as if a photo.

I had a thorough eye check and its all fine.

I wonder whether the fibro affects the eye muscles too.

strangely enough I had an eye test today and the optician confirmed that Fibro does make your vision blurry!

That is interesting, Amanda.

Thanks for sharing that. I never thought to ask my optician. She does know that I have Fibro. I have just had a new prescription and am trying to get on as best I can with my new glasses. My balance isn't very good anyway and, what with that and the fact that my new varifocals are taking some getting used to, I feel as though I am all over the place at the moment. My typing's not too good either!!! I keep transposing letters!!!

Take care,

Hugs Saskia XX

I have varifocals wow they took some getting used to but soooo good when you do ... I was constantly changing between reading and normal glasses and losing one pair.....

Hope you get used to them soon

Blurred vision is one symptom of myofascial pain syndrome, and something like 70% of people with fibro also have MPS. I had very blurry vision and double vision in my left eye - I think it is because the focus of my eye was constantly changing - I had to carry EIGHT pairs of glasses at one point in time in order to drive and I was constantly changing them to find a pair I could see through; plus a lot of other symptoms on the left side of my face including tinnitus - but eventually because of lots of other complications I had the lens changed inside my eye for a plastic lens (like a cataract operation but I didn't have cataracts) and it has solved my eye problem. My complication was that I had developed acute angle closure glaucoma and the MPS and AACG interacted, so don't panic!!!

Hi broadband,

I am at the moment, as I am getting used to new glasses and they are varifocals, so I feel as though I am on a ship swaying about!!!

Seriously though, my eyesight isn't good at the best of times and I think that maybe Fibro. does affect it. What with blurred vision and poor balance it is a wonder that I haven't had more falls than I have..lol...!

I would get your eyesight checked to be on the safe side just in case there is something other than Fibro. causing your problems. Not that I want to be alarmist but I think it is all too easy to put down various symptoms to Fibro. Eyesight is very precious so please don't ignore the problems you are having.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Hugs, Saskia XX

Hi all you wobbly people! Do any of you have fall alarms? I think I'm going to trial one. I feel like I'm on board ship and frequently nearly fall. I did fall on a couple of occasions and landed in the laundry basket and down the side of the loo! I also wear varifocals and you're right they are hard to get used to especially with a new prescription which I'm about to get, oh what fun! I don't think people realise how hard it can be to get acclimatised to them, When I was in the opticians yesterday a poor man came in at his wits end because he couldn't see out of his. He was asking for separate glasses!

Saskia, I too had started to put everything down to fibro but I shall be more careful with my eyes now as I was told that my cataracts are starting to reform. This was why I could see half of the line on the sight chart clearly and the other half was blurred.

Hi all,

At 51 I am longsighted but nonetheless it is quite different to the blurred vision I experience on some days, more than not. I have given up bringing 'things' to my GP's attention.

My rheumatologist cheerfully told me that 'things will only get worse' and then discharged me from his clinic.

I am on amitriptyline and co-codamol.

Reading all the other posts I guess it is fatigued that causes us the blurriness.

I can't remember if I have asked before :-), but does anyone know what causes our bad memories?

I was told by my Dr a few years ago, that it can be cause by a bad upset or trauma ! my Dr says sometimes to help your body to cope wth it the upsets and trauma the part of your brain shuts down , and sometimes the memory part sometimes goes with it ??? Because it happened to me a few years ago and my memory has never been the same ? Before that I had a brilliant memory !!! Hope this helps ?

I have to have new glasses every 14 months. My optician can't explain why, I told him about fibro, that he'd never heard of! But did his homework, now he's sure it's the muscles in my eyes that like every other muscle really don't want to work.x

Hi all, I'm new to fibro. A new friend told me that my ailments were the same as hers, she has fibro. Until then I had never heard of it. I have had my pains and symptoms for over fifteen years and just thought I was unlucky, I hardly ever went to the doctors as didn't think they would believe me, listen or help me. But taking my friends advice, I am now on Amytripyline at night and this has helped to sleep at least...Sorry gone off track a little, just wanted to say feel so much better knowing I am not alone. Thank you.

Also back on track, I too have suffered from dizzy eyes, my eyes seem to go almost cross eyed sometimes, when I look down which is most tiring, like my eyes have forgotten how to work properly. Perhaps another memory prob, or just plain tiredness like you say! Though I do think long term pain management in the brain, must have detrimental effects on how it functions. So much time and energy wasted on carrying pain, memory and balance, must be the way we suffer as a result?
