I hate to think of myself as disabled still struggle with that one but recently I've been putting off going places as I know the walk from the car to wherever I'm going will tire me out & leave me in pain. Does anyone know if you can get a blue badge if you're not on benefits? I'm trying to remain working so I don't have to claim.

Blue badge question
hi suzyb,
I can understand and relate with your concerns, although getting a blue badge might seam as the best solution, i need to let you know that the best you can do is fight your pains, you need to make the effort to go out and to do does walks, i know it will leave you with pains but if you keep at it it will get better with time. I need to do exercises that have low impact but that keep us moving the more you stop the harder it will be to move after. its a vicious circle, but to get active you will struggle at first but with time it will get better, i promise! Hope you feel better soon! smooth hugs!
Hi, I work full time and I'm not on any benefits whatsoever but I have a blue badge.
I printed the forms from the internet and took them to my doctor to get signed off.
You have to say you can't walk any steps without being in pain. If I remember rightly on the form it asked about 3 different amounts of what you can walk - you MUST put the least otherwise you definetly won't get it. My doctor asked me to walk up the corridor so she could see how bad I was, and signed it immediately.
Hope this helps.

@Carly I have been trying to build up for months now. Last week I had to walk 10 mins from the tube station to our office. I could barely move the next day I was in so much pain. I would love to believe that little and often helps improve things longer term but at the moment I'm not seeing any evidence of that
you can have one and work [and dla].
Carly, good thoughts, but sadly that doesn't apply to everyone, I've got other health issues and my walking has deteriorated.
regards,
sandra.
I've applied so I'll have to see what happens. The drs never seem sure if the MCTD or fibro are causing each problem but to me it doesn't matter which one is flaring it hurts either way
hi my blue badge is a life line to me ,even when i go shopping i get a buggy to get me round other wise it would take me all day ,at the local asda havnt got any , i get the staff to help unload the trolly into car ,
next on the agender for me is electric buggy as getting ground floor flat .
When I first got my blue badge, it was on the advice of my employers at the time so I could use one of the disabled spaces outside the building rather than having to trek to and from the nearest car park. My GP was happy to sign the form for me, though I gather that now you might have to go somewhere for a medical assessment too - a friend's dad did.
