I have read a book about the mind and body and in it it talked about Emotional Freedom Technique and was wondering if anyone has tried it or knows about it?

Hi Irenegee I do use mindfulness others call it sitting. basically you use an object or sit facing a wall, and you stay in the moment concentrate on the object what its made off, what the shape, colour etc, if sitting concentrate on the wall your imediate surroundings from the corner of your eyes, then anytime you realise your mind has wonder off bring it back, its living in the present moment the more you practice the more natural it becomes, great distraction, even start with brushing your teeth concentrate feel it on your teeth, movements, feel, etc, if you google it it will make more sense than me probably xx

I'd be interested to know if it is useful; the stuff I've read seemed a bit too full of American hype!

Here is some info on EFT - please be aware that there is no scientific evidence at all that this treatment works.

"Psychologists and researchers should be wary of using such techniques, and make efforts to inform the public about the ill effects of therapies that advertise miraculous claims".

thanks for the link I will have a look

but may i just say that after been told far too often that 'it's all in your head' and 'there is nothing wrong with you' before being diagnosed fibro

i have realised 'we don't know how much we don't know' about a lot of things be it with this illness or in the world in general,

so for someone who has been told I need to manage my illness I am willing to try anything that may help in anyway. i know there are no miraculous cure but i have learnt to try things and take away with me what helps me and add it to my tools of coping strategies.

I taught myself meditation, and learnt to unblock my chakras, I have no great knowledge on how it works, why or what is happening? But I have found that is not always necessary to know (or remember) how it works. i just know i tried it and it helps me with energy levels improved mood and calmer body.

So I will look at EFT with an opened mind and if it doesn't help I will stop. But everything is worth a try

i think anyway

thanks for your reply

i thought it would be worth a try even if it helps in some small way with any one of the symptoms fibro brings? but will research it first and maybe contact my hypnotherapist for some advice.

thanks

I have had a session of EFT and did not find it helpful at all - some people connect with certain therapies more than others and this was not for me - there are books that you can get on this too to do the tapping for yourself.
