dwp sending doctor to visit me
I haven't had a home visit , but I think it's similar to an assessment at a centre . A brief examination , they want to see a prescription for any medications you take, plus any aides you use and some questions about how you manage .
I think someone had a post up earlier with a link to some info . Will see if I can find it .
fibroaction.healthunlocked....
There you go, there's a link in one of the answers to a site that may answer some of your questions .
Good luck
xx
thank you ill take a look, dreading it lol xx
Thanks Helen!
i have.............. it went ok.................... only one thing.. they ask to look around house.. its to check what aids u use... so if u use aids leave them out ok.... just be urself..... good luck x
thanks, is better to be downstairs or in bedroom when they come?
this depends on a few things.. if u spend alot of ur time upstairs in bed.. stay in bed.. i came downstairs but i had my husband with me so he was able to take the doctor around the house.. the things there looking for is.. if u say u need special equipement in the bathroom.. have it out.. if u say u get bed bathed ( which i do on a number of occassions) leave ur basin and face cloth out to be seen... i have equipment that i use for getting in and out of bed.. ie a bed bar, and i have a soft mattress the the o.t supplied... basically they want to see ur living like a disabled person.... i thought at first i made things worse as i asked him as soon as he got through my door.. do u know anything about firbomyalgia lol think he was not happy but..... he was fine.. just told him how i live or not live a life... he made me walk from one end of my livingroom to the other asking if i was in pain.. which i am as i have pain in my feet... done some tests to see how my reflex were.. then listened to my story.. then left.. and when i got his report. he said it as i said it.. and this report has been useful through all my fights with getting dwp.. i wish u good luck.. just ask me anything u need to know xxxx
thanks diane this has made me feel a bit better, do they ask you what you do from getting up till going to bed like they do at face to face medicals? and im a bit dim in this area but will this home visit be from another atos doctor? xxx
hi diane well just had home visit, he seemed a really nice man? he came in asked questions of how my condition affects me and what help i need told him i get help from my husband my mother who lives with us, he asked if that was because of my condition i said yes, i told him my daughter whos a nurse helps me, he looked at me and said thats good and nodded his head at his report and wrote it all down, he said i was on some strong medications and how did this affect me told him makes me even more tired and very constipated which when he saw the drug i take for this he was surprised as its used for severe constipation and for patients who are going to have an operation, thats when he talked about incontinence and told him after this med which i take 3 times a week ,i have to stay very near toilet he agreed and said have you soiled yourself and has it happened during the night which i told him yes he said you must need some help cleaning ourself up i told him yes i do as sometimes dont make toilet in time, he asked if i wear a incontinence pad for bed told him just a sanitary one for dribbles he said well that will do thats an incontinence pad?? we were sitting at dining table and he asked me to walk towards wall it was only 5ft away from table? he then asked me to try and lift my arms forward and rise them if i could but with morning stiffness not very far he says please dont put yourself in more pain, he then measured my knees as i had told him they give out and spasm somtimes which has made me fall downstairs, he told me my knees were swollen with one being worse than the other, then he just asked me to move my feet whilst sitting down. he asked me which aides i used told him bath seat he said i see youve got a rail outside as well thanks for reminding me doc haha he then did memory test which my brain turned to cotton wool flunked it all even simple backward sum i started crying then with frustration felt a bloody idiot he said you have a lot of trouble concentrating and wrote that down, he noticed i have reduced grip in my hands and after examing them agreed, he didnt ask to look around, the thing that im really worried about and might go against me was when he phoned house i was up my caravan with my mother but explained my husband was on days and had to go up with her so i wasnt on my own, told him truth i just stayed in van and it was easier as everything on one level i asked him if he worked for atos he sai no dwp hire him but atos pays him?? confused a bit then.. then he left so now i just have to wait for report, ???? xx
Don't have a tidying up panic before they come - it will suggest you cope easily!
Emphasise the difficulties you have and the help you need or already have.

be very careful with regards to a visit. in my experience, i was getting low rate dla and when a doctor diagnosed me with fibro. he said to me that because of how it was effecting my body, that i should apply for middle rate. and as i was recieving so called support from an agency, i asked them to help me fill in the lengthy form. which they did and because i didnt understand the questions about how far i could walk and do stuff every day etc. i didnt read the form when it was filled in. so , i signed it and sent it off. then i had a call saying i was having a visit, and well, what an experience that was. a very young man, who to be fair, probably didnt know anything about fibro. after that visit, i was taken off dla, and that was april last year. and i've tryed to attemp to fill in another form to the point where i think, you know what, i'm never going to fill that in again. it was such an effort back in 2006. so, thats why i say , be very careful. kind regards. nicola. xx
I didn't know they would do that at tribunal stage, hope you get help from the link above. Also check work and benefits site x
i think they have done this as i didnt have a medical last time a atos nurse looked at my forms and said she didnt need to see me with the evidence i supplied and put me back in wrag for a year , ive already been to tribunal and the judge adjourned it as she wanted more evidence so she was going to ask for. my medical forms from gp and now phone call from dwp doctor, will i have the same treatment when i apply for dla?
im a member of w/b and after trawling through numerous posts still couldnt find anything relevant? xx
Unfortunately you prob will have the same problem with dla, they are just making it hard for everybody in the hope we will give up and get a job. If only, do they think we would go through all this grief and hassle if we didn't have too. Keep fighting hun, we are all in the same boat xx
Hello everyone will i am fighting for dla and esa got a solicitor doing it for me now as it has make me struggle with the stress, i failed both and my appeal for dla is on the 2nd august (3rd time), but what the solicitor has found out is that even though my medical for esa was strong and good they failed me because they used the medical i failed for my dla and she has said that they are using each medical to fail or pass people. I am sick of it i really do not want to go as it was hard enough the first time but got to appear. xxx
That is crazy, if you pass the medical for esa then you should get esa. Isn't it odd that they are happy to use the dla medical to fail you for esa but not use the esa medical to pass you for dla. The whole system is messed up and it all depends on how genuine the bod who assesses you is and as we all know from this forum most of them arn't. At least you have a solicitor backing you, good luck with your tribunal hopefully if you win that they will have to overrule the esa decision too xx
I know i am going round in circles, been fighting dla over 18months now and esa for nearly a year and solicitor say's the esa appeals are getting longer and longer delayed. I am trying so hard not to let it get me down but the fighting for what i am entitled to is a joke xxx There has to be an end xx
