I am wondering if any of you suffer from Polymyalagia as well as Fibro? The symtoms overlap and prednisone is the only treatment for PMR. The Fibro specialist that I go to said when you have both, you have a mess going on. Sending love and soft hugs to all that are suffering today. K

Fibro and PMR
Hi htmre, yes I had Polymyalgia (as well as arthritis and fibromyalgia) about 15 years ago which was treated with prednisone. I had stiffness and pain the large muscles of my upper arms, back neck and torso and felt generally unwell with fever. I got very breathless with it and had to go to A&E where they diagnosed it and gave me the steroids. They said at the time (I was about 26) I was very young to have polymyalgia, but it responded well to the steroids. The fibro of course didn't respond at all, so still felt somewhat rubbish, if less so than when the two illnesses were competing! Soft hugs to you too
Hi Sarah, You were very young to have PMR but sounds as if you are cured. It is suppose to burn itself out in two years but not for me. I can relate to all of your symptoms. I actually thought I had reoccurring flu but could not understand the stiffness. Finally after months of suffering I was diagnosed and prednisone made me think I did not have a problem. Was I wrong? Still battling this stuff after 4 plus years and taking a maintenance dosage of prednisone daily. Right now Fibro has taken center stage. Oh what a life!!!!! Thank you for replying Sarah. Soft hugs back to you. K
had 3 years on prednisolone for asthma etc. steroids are a life saver in the short term but they can be murder trying to stop. My adrenal glands dont work properly any more and together with thyroid & pituitary glands have mucked up my whole endocrine system. also pancreas/insulin. steroids are the body's natural defence system for inflammation now left with 3 types arthritis + FM, fluid build-up - blew up & felt like michelin man! Hospital admission for restricted fluid intake and water tablets - dropped 11kilos in 7 days. We are not all the same I know and have not heard of your diagnosis, but I really do feel you need to have a long chat with specialist into implications of this condition and treatment options available. My problem is i'm allergic to aspirin/ibuprofen type pain relief, which REALLY complicates things. Wish you all the very best for more success than I've had xx
I appreciate your reply Tulip. Sorry you have had such a bad experience. I can definitely relate to being afraid of this drug but it seems I have no choice since prednisone is the ONLY treatment for polymyalgia. If left untreated it can eventually cause blindness. I hate taking it but feel like being between a rock and hard place. Between that and Fibro I have a mess going on in my body. Just trying to control the pain each and every day. Hoping you are having a good day. K
