I took them for IBS many years ago, they didn't help me much but that doesn't mean they're not worth a go !

I'm now on low dose Diazepam for muscle spasms and they are really working for me at the moment, but the GP is none too keen to prescribe them so not sure if I'll be allowed any more .

Hi Helen,

I asked for Diazepam, and she gave me 6 2mg. Said its not a road to go down. Easy for her to say, as shes not living with fibro. I have had short causes of it for many years, but never long term.

Its horrible when you know it works. So put me on the above. Got to go back in 3 weeks. If they dont work shes going to try Clonazipam.

Its a nightmare waiting to see if some thing is going to work.

Thank you for answering my question.

Hug and love to you. Helen xxx

Thank you Teresa, i have to take 10mg 4 x aday. How long do they take to work?

Hi Helen,

When I asked my doc why they don't like to prescribe them he said there are 2 reasons . Firstly they are considered addictive and progressively higher doses are needed over time to achieve the same effect and secondly ( and I had an inkling this was the real reason ) they have a street value . He told me GP's have been told not to prescribe them to new patients because too many of them end up being sold to drug addicts on the street !

He has however put them on repeat for me and I'm allowed 28 2 mg tabs a month . He has told me if I don't take them everyday , so only when needed , there is less chance of me becoming addictive as the effect is fairly short lived ( at that dose only needing a 48 hour break for the " addiction " to wear off ) !

I don't take them every day so hopefully I should be ok.

Good luck with the Buscopan though, they do work for some people I know.

Hugs

i take diazipam for my spasms, and buscapan for IBS and hernia pain, I dont take the diazipam every day as your dr says they are addictive and the need to increase the dosage can ruin the effect of the pain relief. I take other meds to help with pain and sleep.

i take prozac for ibs cos it supposed to calm the stomach down and stops the muscle cramps that start the ibs off and it has worked really well for me for the last 5 years but not many doctors want to take the risk of trying it.
