I have been up all night with agonising pain in my back - does anyone else experience this?

I take amitriptilyne and solpidol but they never even touched the pain - any clues as to drug combos that may help? I see Pregabalin in many discussions - has anyone tried this???

hi stuart, yes i have this often which wakes me during the night, its worse if i have done too much in the day. I was prescribed amytript and temgesic bupronorphine but they jus take the edge off. i have been reading more on a site about suplements which have been said to have benefit for our condition, i have ordered hemp oil caps from amazon to try and am going to look into the magnesium tabs next too. it really is trial and error i think. my doctor wont put me on pregabalin though, he says i have to try everything else first! Good luck to you in your pain management.

Please try and get an emergency appointment to see your GP - ask for a home visit if you physically can't get out.

Whilst many people with Fibro get localised pain problems, these are often not caused by the central Fibro but by something else going on alongside the Fibro or by a knock-on effect of the Fibro, such as myofascial pain syndrome.

It is therefore very important to get these things properly checked out and also to realise that you may need a slightly different treatment for this. In your case, a course of muscle relaxants, injections and/or a referral to physiotherapy would be options to discuss with your GP.

See this article on Physio & Fibro:

fibroaction.healthunlocked....

With regard to your current medications, research does not support the use of Ami as a treatment for Fibro long term or at high (greater than 50mg) doses. It can be a good first med, and a few people do well on it long-term, but many people find that its effectiveness wears off and side effects cause increasing issues, even if you're not noticing them (e.g. it can end up messing up your sleep quality further even if it is still helping you get to sleep). Solpidol is paracetamol and codeine, so 2 mild analgesics. Mild opioids like codeine are recommended as treatments for the symptoms of Fibro, but they cannot help the central Fibro, just dull the resulting pain. It therefore does sound like a good idea to discuss with your GP sorting a better treatment plan (and remember that the optimum treatment of Fibro usually requires a multi-medication & multi-disciplinary approach). But perhaps you should try and sort the immediate back problem first.

hi i have fybro , osteo arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis and am on codeine and gabapentin and i have lolts of lower back pain that is excruiating, i often get stuck too when i get in and oujt of bed or sit on the toilet as the seats are low and its very embarrasing to ask for help so i just grit my teeth and push myself to get up, as i told wiccamom magnesium deff helps, i have never tried hemp oil but will look into that, i am also cutting out gluten and that has made a large difference to my pain, alcohol is a known pain stimulant for fybro sufferers and i try not to drink red wine too often as that sets off the pain

Thanks again for all your replies - I went to docs and he thought it was muscoskeletle (excuse spelling) so gave me Tramadol which has eased it slightly so here's hoping I get a sleep tonight! Thanx everyone

I think whatever pain relief you are on it only works for a while. I am on Ami 30mg at night and it helps but added Pregabalin 3mts ago and it's helping a lot but keep having to increase dose. Now taking 100mg twice a day. I don't have much back pain but get really bad pelvic and hip pain so wake in pain from that.

Hope you get on well at Gp.
