Am looking at getting a new mattress. I'm thinking of going down the memory foam route. Would other members recommend this? And if so would you recommend it on coil/springs, or on a foam base?

Thanks in anticipation

I am really happy with my coil spring with 3 inch memory foam on top.

However have slept in total memory foam and found that it makes me sweat and so hot never again. The worst nights sleep I ever had and woke up feeling worse

Try them out in a shop don't be embarrassed as I always say you cannot scrimp on a bed or shoes as you spend all day in one or another and they can make you life hell if not right for you

We recently bought a Yanis latex mattress, it's fantastic and came with 2 free latex pillows.

We did quite a bit of research, most women I asked, found memory foam very hot, especially those who are menopausal, but the men all loved their memory foam mattresses!

Some companies offer a try-before-you-buy system, where you can try out a memory mattress for a few weeks before deciding if it's for you or not.

After my stint in hospital, (where I slep like a log!), we bought a sprung mattress with a latex top, Miracoil 300 from Slumberland I think. It was fantastic at first, but after just 2 years the spings had gone on both sides, in places. combined we weigh about 22 stone, so not much over weight, abd the mattress was not misused, (no sliding down the stairs etc!), so we were'nt amused.

I wanted a pressure relief mattress, my worst points are shoulders, hips, and feet.

Ideally I would like to sleep on a marshmallow or cloud!

Good luck!

My husband bought us a memory foam mattress, but it hasn't helped me unfortunately.

I bought the highest density topper from here and found it absolutely excellent! Significantly reduced my night and morning pain BUT it is hot so summer duvet and window on latch time. On a good night I wake up cool but on a bad night (when I possibly would wake up sweaty anyway) I would wake up soaked! I think it's the meds though and I would never go back! I think the lower densities are less reactive but cooler - if you call these guys you can get a trial and their service is excellent - cheapest I could find and it's free next day if you buy :)

Hi Spirit,

I have a Viceroy 3" memory foam topper, with a removable, washable, anti-bacterial, protector cover, that I bought from Amazon because it was so cheap.

I've had it 3 years, it's as fantastic now as the day I bought it, love it, love it, love it.

It really helps to get me to sleep because it is so brilliantly comfortable. I can't recommend them enough.

very happy hugs, kate :)

I have never had a memory foam but it does sound

Nice, I lucky I have a water bed and it's fantastic

Always warm

Good luck in what ever you choose

I used to have a 1000 coiled spung mattress with a seperate memory foam, the trouble with this is the memory foam slips down the bed nightly then is difficult to pull back up unless to unmake the bed and start from scratch.

In January I bought a new bed; 1000 individual springs with an integrated memory foam layer all in the mattress, it is so very comfortable, firmly supportive yet the memory foam allows such luxurious comfort.

Lie on one and see what you think; then be sneaky and have a look in the Argos catalogue to see if you can get it cheaper he he...

I would recomment a memory foam mattress which is on a timber bed. Don't remember the make but bought it via a Littlewoods club book. I also purchased merino wool mattress topper pillows and blankets and even if I don't sleep I do really love getting into bed ( and not just because I am tired and in pain). Not cheap but I compared the cost to a holiday and this lasts so much longer

Just read MichelleF66 answer, because my mattress is in a wooden box on all four sides it does not slip at all.

I have never tried a memory foam mattress but I have an Adjustamatic bed together with built in massager.

The mattress on it is very good quality sprung and the adjustable bits - head end or foot end I find useful. When my shoulders and arms are really playing up I find it a great help to raise the head end, works much better than an extra pillow. I only raise the foot end when I am having a really bad flare.. The massager I used a lot when I first had it but now I have to be really struggling to use it - not sure it does much .

Hope this has been useful. I am sure some of the other site users must have considered one.

I got a memory foam mattress it has springs as well and to overcome the heat problem if you look for one with an outlast cover it keeps your body at one temperature and it works.I got mine on-line for about £400 look on the sites I put in memory foam with springs and outlast cover and several sites came up, as you say you cant stint on beds or shoes cos if your not in one your in the other and we need comfort at night with our problems dont we good luck hugs xxx

hi there! i sleep on a memory foam mattress topper on top of an ordinary mattress (£149 from Dreams) which is fairly comfy. my hubby runs hot so he doesnt want a memory foam mattress.

However! i replaced my daughters bed witha memory foam mattress from Dreams this january.£299 for a double. it is the bestnight sleep i ever get. I was in the store recently with my mum. on chatting to the salesman, he said they now do a 'slatted' memory foam mattress which is cooler! i will be re-visiting the store!

i prefer to go into a shop for this type of purchase cos i need to try the diff types out. plus dreams do a 30 night satisfaction guarantee. plus for £40 extra i bought a 10yr guarantee

xx

Thanks girls for your advice.t rouble is Westgate I dont get out at all and depend on the internet, but will have a look at that Dreams site. My own mattress is good but the old bones are really painful these days and while I dont want to get rid of the mattress I want something to cushion me. The only thing with the internet is you get dizzy wondering which one to get as there are so many and as you say Westgate to need to try before you buy. Thanks anyway everyone.really appreciated.

Cheers.X

HI, I slept on one when I went on holiday and it was the best week of sleep I had had for years! I also woke up feeling a lot less pain than usual.

I now have a mattress topper as I can't afford the whole mattress yet!

Yes, get one...I can't wait to!!

Take care of you xxxx

I got one from the silentnight miracoil 7 range. I love it. Its got a 7 support zones so supports your shoulders and hips. It also quite deep and keeps you warm with the top layer (its a not memory foam but cant remember what its called) Im using a 4.5 tog quilt and kicking it off during the night.
