A good pillow to sleep on..?

Good morning all

I hope you all have had a good night and aren't feeling too bad this morning... unfortunately for me the last couple of nights have been unbearable :(

The muscles on my back and neck are so stiff at the moment I have very restricted movement. I've had physio for sometime but when I have flare ups it's particularly difficult to even lay down and rest or sleep! Just wondered whether anyone could recommend a good support pillow that may help to provide some comfort at least. Ive been looking at orthopaedic pillows and memory foam pillows which some say isn't good for those with fibromyalgia. Would really appreciate everyone's advice/experience

Thank you all in advance

Much love

Good morning to you too Sabberz_Yaqqerz .

A pillow that will suit fibromites is a very personal thing. I have had many fights with my pillows over the years, sleeping on all types. There are now pillows specially designed for side sleepers, or back or front sleepers, so it may be worth taking a look at those.

I cannot sleep with a memory foam pillow, I find them too hard and very hot. My pillows at the moment are two thin hollowfibre with a plump feather and down one on top. On other nights however, when I need to sleep propped up, I add another plump hollowfibre one to support my back.

You will probably get many different answers to this question!

Hi Kay

I agree completely as what works for one person may not necessarily work for another! I've been doing a lot of trial and error (at an expense) when it comes to pillows and I think a combination approach maybe best as some days hollowfibre feels to limp and other days feather down feels to puffed! Might try with diff brands and see thanks again xx

hello Sabberz- As a fibro neck muscles sufferer I can only say to you NOt to buy memory foam, not good for neck musle pain at all.. I use feather & down that you can plump up and curve your neck into.. if you lay on your back pull either side towards you shoulders. if you lay on either side then pull the pillow over you shoulder under you neck for support, as you relax the pillow will accommodate you. I hope this will help you.

Hi Caz

Yes I've heard that about the memory foam and think I agree! I will try to position the pillow better and see how I get on thanks so much xx

Many years, many pillows :-P

My choice is a water pillow, I've been using this for over a year. It can be made as soft/hard, high/low as you like by using more or less water. The water bladder is covered in a thick layer of comfy filling.

Good luck!

I have had a lot of problems with pillows in the past and it's cost quite a lot of money to find the ones that suit me. I find the pillows that are "feels like down" to suit me the best. Hope that helps x

I can sympathise my poor husband could have started a shop with all the pillow he has tried so could my friend. The consensus seems to be that memory foam is the the one not to buy. I can't have a low pillow because I am an asthmatic but they seem to say they are better for the neck position. I personally use a Dunlopillo which is made of latex not cheap but supportive but soft.

Telynores has a good idea with the water pillow as then you could adjust it to whatever depth you found most suitable.

Good luck with it.x

Hi Rosewine

Thank you for that... I do have a latex mattress so will look into the latex pillow also :)

Let me know how you get on. What I like about it is that you don't have to plump it up and it stays in shape.x

I recently bought one for back sleepers and it's been the best one I've had for a while. It's not perfect but like you I was desperate for a decent pillow. I think you should be able to 'try before you buy'.

Hi Sabberz_Yaqqerz

I am so genuinely sorry to read about your pillow problems my friend, and I sincerely hope that you can find a suitable one for yourself. I have to admit that I do use a memory foam pillow and I personally find it the best for me. I want to truly wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Finding a pillow has been a quest over the last few years - I have a feather and down for side sleepers though I often sleep on my back. In the past I have managed with a soft foam pillow which I tied in the middle before putting into a pillow case this give great support for sleeping on your back this was a tip from a physiotherapists some years ago when I had a neck injury.
